The point of totk was to be an expanse on the mechanics of botw. Totk successfully innovated on nearly every system and mechanic while still getting it to run on a glorified iPad. “majoras mask felt like dlc of oot” is something that would have been said if the gaming climate were the same 20yrs ago. Open world games are extremely saturated now and these modern Zelda’s are an entirely different experience from not only the games who spawned the franchise but also gave it household relevance or the numerous games which tried to innovate with varying degrees of success afterwards. Either you liked what botw brought especially for the time it released and you enjoyed its sister game after nearly a decade of breathing room or you suffer from “Minecraft syndrome” where you get bored without a 12 step guide in front of you. The point was to make an almost rdr2 experience on your phone, not the most convoluted puzzle game with the hardest 9 phase boss fights (or frankly even remotely similar to the quite simple games of the past) you should want to explore the chasm one light arrow at a time or figure out what piece of junk lies on each sky platform, run into some goofy side quests. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, most of us were also like 14 when botw came out not insane for your taste to have changed.

I didn’t play TOTK but I did have 150 hours in BOTW. Mostly cause it was my only switch game at the time and it’s just… it doesn’t feel like Zelda. It reminds me a lot like Elden Ring, or I guess the other way around. Exploring was super cool AT FIRST but it just got super repetitive for me, the shrines especially and the beasts were cool but as dungeons they weren’t very interesting. Tbh I really do think BOTW is overrated even if it’s really well made. Also I feel like Zelda games should be fun to 100%… Botw and ToTK are not because of Koroks lol
