THE TUNE IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN PERSON, IN SANTA ANA, CA. If you live in any other state, you can not get this tune without driving here
If you are wanting to be tuned, hit up Jason or Dimitri: @sibi.built and @trdpro_pugz
I got my truck OVTuned months ago, and have put roughly 20,000 miles on the truck since then. The OVTune 2.0 was cool, but it still felt slow. Really slow. Jason told me he was working on a custom map months ago and perfecting it, and I have been looking forward to try it ever since. This custom "Sibi Tune" is awesome and a noticeable difference from the regular OVTune 2.0. I am very, very pleased.
The stock tune on the Tacoma is garbage. It really is. Do yourself a favor and get tuned to increase MPG, drivability, shifting points, transmission hesitation, and the overall terrible driving characteristics of the third generation Tacoma.
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed.

Yes it will help, and no. They offer both 87 and 91. There is a noticeable gain with 91, but since you have a manual I think the 87 paired with being able to choose your rpm will be sufficient! Plus...gas savings

Toyota should do a better job so the truck doesn't suck off the lot. I bailed on my 3rd gen Tacoma 6MT after 3 years.
@AiJJC
@AiJJC 3 жыл бұрын
Why did you bail on the manual, what were your reasons?
@spinphoto
@spinphoto 3 жыл бұрын
@@AiJJC Full disclosure, I don't off road enough to make the Tacoma's trail capability a consideration on any level. I move stuff and carry stuff and hit dirt roads every now and then. It's a long story. TL;DR; In the end, I bought the wrong truck. I bought the tacoma for the manual transmission which turned out to be disappointing, for the Toyota reliability but within four months of the 3 year warranty ending, the air conditioning sprung a leak and the blind spot/RCTA monitor failed. I hadn't hit the milage warranty yet, I hit 3 years first. Those things shouldn't have failed for a long time. Maybe I'm wrong. First, I guess you need to know why I bought a brand new manual transmission Toyota Tacoma in 2017. In 19 years of vehicle ownership, I had never owned an automatic, I LOVED shifting my own gears from the first day I bought a used 1991 Isuzu Rodeo. But, at the time I had a 2004 Honda Element manual transmission, I used it like a truck, it was an incredible vehicle, versatile, fun to drive, huge cargo space - it'll handle snow and light trails because it was FWD with RWD assist - kind of like AWD, but not really. It had a little 4 banger under the hood that put out something like 165hp. It wasn't a rocket ship, but whenever I asked it to do stuff, it gave me all it could give. It was a responsive engine, but won no races haha. I would buy another one in a heartbeat - but they're all 10 years old or more, production ended in 2011. Unfortunately our Canadian climate had taken its toll on the Element. It had 139,000 miles on the odometer (224km) the frame was getting close to failing, and some maintenance was coming up that made it hard to justify repairs. So, I started shopping for my very first new vehicle. A van would probably make the most sense, but none of them are MT. Next best thing, I guess, was a pickup. The Toyota Tacoma was still available with the MT in 2017. (a base Colorado/Canyon or a Nissan Frontier, too - but the Frontier was very dated having been the same platform for YEARS). I test drove the Tacoma AT and tried to like it - but, at the time, the automatic would slam gear when downshifting to a stop (fixed in a software update, I understand). I asked the dealer to find me an MT. It took six weeks to get an MT on the lot from another province. My Element continued to fall apart. I test drove the Tacoma when it arrived - for like an hour or so. It was so new and quiet - I pulled the trigger - if I don't like it, the resale value will hopefully mitigate my losses. Within the first year, I found the truck is too small - I need to cover the bed - my tools/bikes won't fit under a tonneau cover, so, I ordered a Leer 100XR cap to cover the bed. That helped a lot - and now I wish I had the Access cab 6 foot bed instead of the double cab 5 foot bed. The 5 foot bed is limiting, and the cab height cap wasn't ideal. My bikes barely fit - but they fit, so that's good. Anyway - that's how I ended up in the truck, so I'll just bullet point my biggest disappointments on a $40,000 truck that I think are design decisions by Toyota. Some of these things are just technology and that's just how it is... modern MTs are just not like old MTs, some is emissions related, some is fuel economy related. 1) The 3.5L engine makes power at 3500rpm and pathetic torque below that, so shifting my own gears was just a poor driving experience. Kind of suggests the engine was made for an automatic. 2) The gas pedal is programmed to feel like a wet sponge, it is terribly unresponsive. I tried a pedal adapter, a Sprint Booster in my case, it's a bit of gimmick in that mashing the pedal to the floor does the same thing. On race setting 9 it moved full throttle to the first inch or two of pedal travel. 3) Inconsistent throttle response for downshifting - sometimes the pedal needs to go to the floor, sometimes it doesn't - seems to be speed & time dependant - the throttle responds differently if I hit the gas a second after the clutch than if i hit the gas 10s after the clutch. (what?!). Exaggerated with the sprint booster 4) Reverse is geared way too high considering the lack of torque at low rpm. This has to result in excessive clutch wear when backing up steep grades or maneuvering a trailer. 5) The drivetrain is noisy - rattles and whines, a lot. 6) RPM Hang - modern MTs suffer from RPM hang because of emissions, some good YT videos out there on it. That's just how it is now :( ok, ok, I know - it's a truck, not a race car. I'm not supposed to consider speed *or* fuel economy. Here's the thing - trucks are supposed to carry things, pull things and push things, how does a truck "truck" when there's very little low end torque? The 2017 Tacoma wasn't good at these things, it was small, and felt underpowered, and it's not like a small underpowered truck was like this because it was getting great fuel economy, either! It was lethargic, small, and not great on gas. In November 2020, after 22 years of nothing but Manual Transmissions, I traded for a used 2018 Ford F150 Lariat, V8 Supercrew with a 6.5 foot bed, and yes, 10 speed automatic. Everything fits, when I ask it to do something, it springs to life.

@@spinphoto this is a very informative response. Thank you I've had the same kind of thought process myself. I have a 20/20 Tacoma TRD sport, manual transmission. I do like the manual transmission, but the response time is ridiculous. I like you said it's not a race car, I know this, but I still feel I expect a lot more out of this expensive truck. And then when you ask other people they're like oh, just go OV tune it, just re-gear it? I shouldn't have to do this type of thing coming off the lot! I already pay a lot of money to get this thing in my driveway, but yeah got to shove cash into it just for it to drive half-assed. And guys will say well didn't you test drive the truck beforehand, yes of course. I guess I just drink the Toyota Kool-Aid LOL. I know they're reliable trucks, but that's all really it has going in (theory) there are other trucks out there with probably just as good reliability plus more power haha. Actually I know there is. I have also driven the automatic third gen Tacoma, nothing was pathetic as well, it started to learn my driving habits after a little bit. But we're still underpowered and geared ridiculous. Maybe their new generation you'll be completely different who knows. I might hop into a 4Runner, or a Ford Raptor I don't know LOL
@spinphoto
@spinphoto 3 жыл бұрын
@@terrynichol577 I think Toyota can do better, but they don't need to because owners go and fix the lethargic factory performance by dumping software tunes and gears into the truck. I don't get why it's so popular - maybe because it was the only kid on the block for a while. I definitely wasn't willing to dump money into the truck in case after all the work, it still didn't do what I think it should do. Best of luck finding a better truck. Speaking on performance only - the 18 F150 V8 has been a great performer in comparison. I can't speak for reliability yet. My Tacoma was a much better looking truck - my Ford looks like an old man truck haha

@@spinphoto haha yeah, I don't like the look of most words. The Ford Raptor, and if the Ford Ranger Raptor came to Canada I would definitely give that a test drive. I was so excited to see this but immediately heartbroken when I saw it’s only available in CA. ;( How does this compare to the ISB tune provided by toyota? I know it’s not exactly a tune but it’s supposed to fix many of the transmission issues. I’m also hoping to get the KDMax tune afterwards tho
@socalexpeditions
@socalexpeditions 3 жыл бұрын
The TSB? Night and day, the two don't even compare. The TSB just help fix some of the transmission issues, but the truck still drives like a dog after. The KDMax tune is significantly better than nothing (and the TSB). You'll be very happy with it since it's available remotely.

I had the 91, then switched to the 87 when Biden got voted in and gas got expensive. There is a slight difference between the two and the 91 does feel better and yield a bit better MPG.
