Jamal, the expression on your face when they started this medley was just priceless. You felt the same way we all did when we first heard this wonderful medley released earlier this year by The Midnight Special. I didn't know that they had done this and was totally awestruck when I first heard it. Just think about it. All they needed were two guitars accompanying their three perfect voices to recreate those fantastic Beatles songs. Both groups had similar accents since they didn't grow up too far away from each other. Even though our Bee Gees were born on the Isle of Man their parents were from Manchester which is only a few miles away from Liverpool, the Beatles' home town, and they did in fact return to Manchester for a few years before immigrating to Australia in 1958. I listen to this medley on a daily basis and, since March when it was originally released, it has gotten more than one million views. Quite impressive! I'd love for you to check out Robin singing lead on "Oh! Darling" from the 1978 "Sgt. Pepper" movie. I think you'd enjoy it and won't be disappointed.

Its not a cover, they hosted the midnight special for a longer time, singing there their songs, songs from other artist with them together ans also songs from others!
@susieq9801 Жыл бұрын
@@nelerhabarber5602 - If someone sings songs that were made famous by someone else, they are considered covers.That's what "cover" means. There are tons of "cover bands" of the Bee Gees, Beatles, Elton John, AC DC, Led Zeppelin and other groups. Many performers "covered" Bee Gees songs. If the original performer who did the song is not the one singing it is a cover. Earlier in their career they did other Beatle covers like"You won't see me" and "Please please me".

The Bee Gees were originally from Manchester, which is not far from Liverpool, so they had essentially the same accent when they spoke or sang. Like The Beatles, The Bee Gees were also heavily influenced by black American R&B (and also tried singing in American accents with their Northern accents), so they were tapped into the same influences, and that makes their Beatles covers much closer in sound and spirit to the originals.

They sang Alexander’s Ragtime Band on the Midnight Special and added in some comedy. It was one of the songs they sang in their shows as kids supporting their family. They did a great cover of Bob Dylan’s Blowin In the Wind live. They also did a medley including Lollipop, Bye Bye Love, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen. Robin’s cover of Oh Darlin went to #2 in the late 70’s. I would say that they covered covers very well. Hope you will react to more.

The Bee Gees were achieving their first world wide success about the same time that all of the "Paul is Dead" rumors were floating around. This lead to the fantastic rumor that the Bee Gees were the Beatles without Paul. Of course this was not true but you can understand it after listening to the Bee Gees' harmonies. Remember, this was during the era of radio and albums as the primary media sources for music so to the causal listener it might ring true.

Even early in their career when they were kids (the twins were almost 10 years younger than The Beatles) they also did Beatle covers like "Please please me" and "You won't see me". They were easily as good as or better than The Beatles vocally but had a trick up their sleeves that The Beatles did not have.....Robin's magnificent vibrato, most obvious in "This Boy". The Bee Gees medley of their own songs and a couple they wrote for others in 1989 in Melbourne during their "One for all tour" is terrific.

They sounded so much like Beatles that Atlantic’s Jerry Wexler confirmed. sending out white label acetates to deejays and programme directors, hyping the market with advance copies of singles. “[‘New York Mining Disaster 1941’] In fact it started a mystery [in the USA] about us, because they started playing [it] and saying, ‘They’re this new group from England that begins with a B and finishes with an S’ so they all said, ‘Ah, it’s The Beatles, “It was good for us because … everyone thought it was The Beatles under a different name,” Robin added. “And all the deejays on radio stations in the US picked it up immediately thinking it was The Beatles, and it was a hit on that basis. It established us in those early years. It helped our following record which was nothing like The Beatles.”
