Tailor of Gloucester and Peter Rabbit, of course. I sometimes think I liked the Tailor of Gloucester because it helped me with understanding how to say Worcestershire sauce as well as I, who had clumsy fingers for a little girl, had a terrible time doing fine embroidery and stitching. (I still have clumsy fingers!!) Having mice help with embroidery would've been great. My mom was always giving me embroidery hoops. I guess girls don't get those any more. My mom was enchanted by the idea of little girls learning how to embroider and knit. Maybe girls would stop trying to be boys now if they could spend time sewing. (ok, I'm being a little silly, but honest)

When my son was little, the Tale of Two Bad Mice was his favorite! This book works on many levels and for children the story of rule breaking/trouble making strikes a deep cord.

I have all of her books collections for my granddaughter and great granddaughter. My aunts mother introduced me to her stories when I was about seven. (I'm now 82). Wish I could see her house 😊.

My first pet was a hamster I named Hunca Munca. She was extraordinary…an escape artist but lived 4+ years. The day she died, she asked to come out of her cage, took a turn with everybody in the house and died in my hands, much loved and cried over. I was 11 when she died.
@tessdurberville7118 ай бұрын
@toomignon I had a dollhouse from age 9 with a family of toy mice. I always wanted a real mouse, but did not have one until I was 20. I only had him for two years and he also died in my hands. He was very dear to me and I will never replace him.

Thank you for sharing this. When my son was born I made his nursery yellow and blue and had all Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit motifs, curtains, wall art, bedding. Of course it was more for me, but it was a beautiful room. He never showed any interest in it, but never complained either. I still love her artwork and stories. Her books are kept on a shelf with all my favorite things.

I did the same for my children, in the very early 90s. I also embroidered a beautiful baby sampler for my first born with lots of B. Potter’s characters.

As a child l read numerous biographies, from which one can learn so much. Strangely l never came across Beatrix Potter. I would not have appreciated her stories then because l disliked fantasy (odd for a child, l know). As an adult l came to know of her work and frequently read TWO BAD MICE to my son and daughter. I delighted in it too and hearing more about the authoress has increased my appreciation of her character. Thank you.

I really enjoyed your video and thank you for all the work you put into it. I am a huge fan of Beatrix Potter, she was an inspiring woman although I don’t think she planned to be. We travelled from Australia for a holiday visiting Scottish relatives and went to Hilltop Farm. It was late in the day, bucketing down with rain and little watery rivers ran down the path to greet us. In the house it was charming but very dark, due to the weather ,time of day and small windows. We were given wind up torches to see everything ,so that the light didn’t degrade the textiles and watercolours on the walls. The torches needed constantly rewinding so it was alternatively hilarious and frustrating. As a quilter, painter and animal lover who loves reading, I thought it was heaven. If I had to choose a story which is very hard, probably Appley Dapply’s Nursery Rhymes as my children knew it by heart.😊

I loved Peter Rabbit. He got into nearly as many scrapes as I did. I grew up through the hedge from my prandparents' farm and cucumbers were known to me. A cucumber frame was not, nor did any adults enlighten me. Then, a few years back, I listened to a recording of "Run Rabbit, Run" sung by the "D-Day Darlings". What a theme song for Peter Rabbit that would have made!!

What a beautiful video! I am currently reading "Beatrix Potter- a life in nature" by Linda Lear and can highly recommend it. 😊
I hate it when 21st century perceptions are inserted and narrated into history as though fact when there is nothing documented. For instance the dolls sat and looked pretty because they are dolls- dolls don't move. If one sits them then they sit. If they are made to stand then they stand. Whatever Beatrix Potter's motivations as to her drawings and narrations are, the bottom line is that she had a talent and a drive to create, which she did. Perhaps you can read into why we all still love the gift of her artistry and stories, as well. As for me I love them because they are cute, warm, and fun and I believe Beatrix felt the same.

Very enjoyable video, Tasmin but some visual choices (*of unrelated animation characters such as Sponge Bob ! ) I felt spoiled the Victorian vibe..you also cite the characters at the intro as 'infamous', surely you didn't mean that! (*though the actions of the 'Two Bad Mice' is rather deserving of such a status!)
