Hi Faiz0rr, Exactly!!! BTW, that's the way how actors in traditional Cantonese opera caress the beard of their characters. Furthermore, in order to difficiate the protagonists from the antagonists, there are different ways to do that. For traditional Pe-King/Bei-Jing opera, I've no clue how they practice it. This is why Beatrix was able to defeat Elle in the end. Beatrix listened, Elle didn’t. Beatrix listened and respected Pai Mei, and was willingly to push herself to extreme levels in order to learn from this great and powerful man. She honoured his wisdom and his skills, and aspired to learn his greatness. She pushed her pride aside and dropped all insecurities and solely focussed on his teachings… Elle was too stubborn to learn from him and even went as far as disrespecting him which prompted him to snatch out her eye as punishment for her insolence… and even after that she knew she was too weak to fight him and was filled with resentment so she took the cowardly route and poisoned his fish. This proves Elle’s weakness, she might be able to put up a fight and defend herself with a sword but when it comes to face-to-face she lacks the confidence to face them fully, she results to more cunning and sneaky techniques. Poisoning Pai Mei, taking part in the wedding rehearsal massacre in which she used ranged firearms on innocent people, agreeing to kill Beatrix while in a comatose state by lethal injection, planting the deadly Black Mamba in Budd’s money case… this shows her sneaky and cowardly approach, yeah it’s effective at taking out her enemies but it lacks the strength that the others at least gathered, even if they died at the hands of Beatrix in the end. Look how much she protested Bill after he called off her mission to kill Beatrix in the hospital… she knew if she ever woke up she would come after Elle and Beatrix was a better fighter and would kill her, she was threatened by her. Even standing over her lifeless body she still felt the intensity. Even Gogo proved more head on than Elle. I believe that if the time came, or she backed herself into a corner she would’ve definitely taken out Bill if it meant saving her own ass. She definitely would struggle against his highly skilled swordsmanship so she probably would lull him into a false sense of security and perhaps slit his throat after laying with him… I could see Elle making a move like that. But ultimately Beatrix was the better student and the better fighter. For she knew there was a reason Bill sent her there. Even after taking her eye she could’ve easily finished her off but what would be the point, Elle wouldn’t be able to defend herself and Beatrix knew it was an unfair fight and she’d much rather let her squirm in agony, as a person who shows no mercy deserves no mercy to be shown to them. And Pei Mei would leave her to die too. I feel like Beatrix really embodies Pai Mei in the end.

I love the progression that happens off camera between these two. You would think she would only have malice and hatred for a master that brutal and cold but he essentially saved her life later on (buried alive) and I would say that even though he had a certain view on women she became his best pupil or at least one of his most liked as he taught her the five point palm exploding heart technique. She also goes into rage when Elle brags about killing Pai Mei and snatches out her other eye. I wish Tarantino could've showed more of that bonding between the two off camera.

I'd say Bellatrix showed Pai Mei unknowingly for herself, that not all women are the same and that there're still some who got enough courage to face even people who are stronger than themselves. So Bellatrix earned Pai Mai's very rare showed and given respect, when he taught her the technique as a proof. As cruel as he is as a fighter or teacher, as much of wisdom he had. Unfortunately, he died in a typical way for strong and legendary fighters: not in an open fight, but using cunning like a snake.

Pai Mei didn't like the fact that Beatrix tried to kick him in the nuts...He wanted to evaluate her fighting skills...He felt her taking that angle"WAS JUST LIKE A WOMAN!" and it was the easy way out! And if he despise that move,the next one he really hated! He really only made her arm feel that kind of excruciating pain, because Beatrix tried a cheap shot hitting Pai Mei with a stone...WHILE HIS BACK WAS TURNED! AND THAT WAS WHAT PISSED PAI MEI OFF! Think i am wrong...Notice how he was joking and laughing at her the beginning of the fight, even when she tried to kick BELOW THE BELT! But, look how his expression QUICKLY CHANGED when she tried to TAKE A CHEAP SHOT WITH THAT ROCK! He lost respect for her at that moment...LOOK AT THE REACTION ON HIS FACE!

I can't think of any other example where Beatrice tries a cheap shot like that. And she picked a particularly bad time. With Pa Mei you try that? Seriously? Pa Mei? Beatrice clearly needed some mental discipline at that point. Of course, one could argue that Pa Mei turned his back deliberately knowing she would grab a rock and make of fool of herself. But then Beatrice would have known that Pa Mei would not accept her as a pupil unless she had been humiliated, so she did that on purpose knowing that Pa Mei was waiting for the rock. The possibilities are endless.
