Care got me in exactly the same way Jim , I’ve never been affected by a song before like I have with this , best song I’ve heard for decades and Marillion will continue to do what they do best - immerse you with every emotion that is humanly possible and that is why they’re the best band on the planet!

As one of the long term Marillion fans you referred to in part one I have supported them from day one through their crowd funding and Lightsaver etc. I am glad you enjoyed this album as much as I did they are a truly underrated band. You should check out Brave if you want another emotional roller-coaster or one of my favourites Afraid Of Sunlight.

Jim, please please....NEVER EVER EVER apologize for showing emotion over a record and its contents. I mean, at the end of the day, isn’t that why we actually love music? Music that can and often moves us. Your emotion is what will make me go purchase this record and give it the time of day. Period. SO good on you! Love the show....what a great gig you have...Blessing upon you, my new favorite You Tuber/lover of music.

They have been playing the entire album on tour. It somewhat overshadows the other tracks they play to make up the show. They can have my money now for their next project. A truly special band.

New to your channel, Jim. This recording review got me here. I’m way behind on music due to caregiving duties, so embarrassed to say this was my first listen of “An Hour Before It’s Dark.” Of course, the blu ray will be purchased today and here tomorrow! Gotta give that fabulous Oppo player a workout. I’m nearly 40 years with Marillion. Welcome to the show. My young 78 yr old concert pianist wife and young 65 yr old me thoroughly enjoyed your 4 part presentation, and your genuine reactions. (Haven’t seen/heard an LP in ages!) We especially enjoyed the fact that you’re right there in the UK. (We’re outside Las Vegas) Your English presence, accent, and dialect is quite apropos for commenting on a UK band. Right! FYI - recently, through reviews from classical composer The Daily Doug on KZbin, said wife became an instant Marillion fan having never heard of them before. Doug’s review of “Estonia“ hooked her. How great is that? Tears are requisite being a fan of Marillion. No apology necessary…AT ALL. We shed tears with you. When you go back thru the catalog, you’ll comprehend an even bigger scope of this band’s unquestioned expertise at blending phenomenal lyrics with phenomenal music. Marillion truly are the most understated, underrated and ignored professional musicians on the planet! What passes for main stream music is, and has been, insulting for so many decades. Any real lover of music ignores it, as I do. If you haven’t heard it yet, might I recommend the title track from the 1995 album “This Strange Engine.“ Cover art is so apropos as well. Again, have some tissues at the ready… Looking forward to more of your videos real soon. You’re an excellent disseminator of music/lyrics. Your raw emotion is a welcome experience in camaraderie, and is part and parcel to the music you’re reviewing. GiddyUp Jim and Cheerio! 🤙

@debthecpn To quote Wikipedia "Note: After 4 minutes of silence following "Angels on Earth", the CD will play a 12" remix of "Murder Machines"." So it's there they've just hidden it, something they've done before.

Fortunately on the cd, there is a fairly sizable chunk of silence after Care, before the remix kicks in... long enough to give your head a shake and gulp a strong beverage before you get clobbered by the remix, which actually works well as a way of bringing you back with a bit of a dance step and smile... or if you really want to wallow in care, you get time to snivel your way to the hi fi and turn it off before it starts.! Personally I go for the former option :-) I like the remix dance thing, its a bit of fun. even husband likes it,,, he likes his dance weird 90s stuff and is a big art of noise fan... but not into Marillion so much as me lol, but this remix got his attention.. which is a miracle lol. I think the remix is designed to show that they can do the other stuff just as well. I would personally not have put it on side 4 but gone for maybe a non vocal track of say... Sierra Leon or Crow, but on the cd, the remix does work. If they released it as a standalone 12 inch special ed, Id buy it... they did that with Living in Fear, so I wouldnt say no to MM remix 12 ins special ed. Glad you survived Care. (y)

Like you say, it's so human. There are a lot of emotionless people around these days, especially after the pandemic. Part of being a genuine nice human is to cry. It doesn't make you weak, it only makes you one of the nicer people who inhabit planet earth. There are too few of us about. Perhaps humanity needs a shot of Marillion rather than vaccine. No apology needed, Jim.

Thanks for posting that, I hadn't heard it yet. I'm currently not in the same country as my own copy of the album, sadly, so haven't even seen it, just listened to my free download which doesn't have this track. I'd say there's a lot of Depeche Mode in there, which is no bad thing in my opinion. Your call of Numan is also good.

It is interesting to hear a different version of the same song. With regards to Marillion, there are two wildly different versions of "Memory of Water", the original one, and the "big beat version", both of which have their merits. I'd also consider that two songs on the "Afraid of Sunlight" CD to be essentially two versions of the same song, the title song and "Afraid of Sunrise". Also, I've always enjoyed the contrast between the "Cinema" version of "It Could Happen" and the Yes version that appears on 90125. If you ever need a gimmick to add some interest to your reaction channel, you might want to consider reacting to orignals and covers of the same song.

Marbles, Brave, Seasons End, Anaraknophobia, Holidays in Eden, FEAR, Sounds That Can't be made all great HOG albums. The band is awesome. The First three Fish ( before HOG ) albums very much in the vein of old school Genesis all amazing. Plenty of other HOG albums that are terrific as well. Buy Marbles or Brave you won't be disappointed. Buy Misplaced Childhood a fan favorite Fish album.

Interesting choice for a dance track. My interpretation of the actual track of this tune is as a warning during the contagious stage of the current plague. A dance track tends to be remixed to be played in clubs, which, in my opinion, is one of the main potential breeding grounds to keep the plague mutating and spreading. But, that's my interpretation. The band probably meant something totally different.

Waited to the end .....well almost. Loved this album on the first listen. I'm generally not a fan of remixes. I feel they don't make the final cut for a reason. But.....some people love them. To each their own. I can't say I've ever heard a remix that outshined the original. As I said, my suggestion is BRAVE next. Nice , honest reaction my friend.

I do not really listen to that 12" remix. . They do that sometimes. But I just listen to the cd to end of Care. Then if Ifancy listening to that version although like you I prefer the shorter version machine. But no it is not part of the album just a remix. As I said they do sometimes do whole Cd worth of putting it differently and is added with the album. My hubby loves it because a lot of differing music he can listen to because being pasrially deaf he finds it hard to follow the emotions (although Care sends us both for a hankie) So don't let it put you off. Brave my first fav album is a concept album. It also has the cd version with another cd with different versions of stuff based on the music of the album. I feel it enhances the music. So if you not keen stop at care and if you fancy a bit of more up there music just use it for that! Sorry babbling on... It is your channel not mine lol

On the Cd the Bonus track follows after a long pause and is more of a reprieve. I think it works better in that form. Hearing it like this, having watch all four of your videos in one sitting I agree it seems a little unnecessary. Though it take nothing away from a brilliant album - you just down play it.

Why apologize, you’re only human. I had the same; must mean I’m human too 😇 I don’t like the remixed version. It misses the emotion of the original one. I always type while listening and now I hear you take the same conclusion. It’s the same as the house/dance versions of classic songs; they’re almost all worse.
