I can't believe this guy sailed all the way across the Pacific and during a hurricane just to demonstrate wind speed in a seven minute video. Mad.

There was numerous developing hurricanes during that voyage in Pacific Ocean, that's why some of them are unavoidable.

Takes me back to my days as a METOC while serving on HMS Ark Royal. Thankfully I never saw scale 11-12 while at sea. Scale 10 in the Norwegian Sea was frightening

Yes indeed but not for a 360m capesize bulk carrier, it just like force 7 only you can't feel the effect of the waves

In the movie The Perfect Storm starring George Clooney, we see the small fishing boat climbing up a vertical wave. What would the Beaufort scale be? 100?

Thank you for sharing this. Ten years ago, when i was ten or eleven years old, i went on a fishing trip on my family's 62-foot fishing vessel, and we traveled at night through big waves. I didn't know until recently that it was most likely a strong gale or a storm, based on how high the boat would heave as it rides up and down a wave. but i couldn't see the water around us from the wheelhouse. I was having fun, but everyone was in the wheelhouse, and it was quiet. i never acknowledged it until i remembered. What is the maximum wave height to ship-length ratio for head sea, if there is a rule? I only know how to obtain the boats limits for beam sea. Thank you for sharing this. I just looked at the beaufort scale to determine if it was a gale or a storm in that one trip.

@@xxskippernate409xx6 rules depends on local maritime authorities, mostly fishing boats less than 50m are advise not to go sea during gale winds. If you are at port they will not allow you to sail during force 7 or 8. There will be a broadcast thru VHF, MF/HF EGC or NAVTEX weather forecast for vessels

Funny how Jesus didn't use his skills of calming storms to let him easily sail across the ocean blue in a little fishing boat to take his gospel to the Americas or at least draw a map to tell the disciples to go into all the world double quick instead of leaving it til 1492. Anyway what beaufort is it when the sea starts smoking ? 9 or 10 ? I suppose with the nature of unsteady winds in gales that a storm probably goes up and down like force 10 for several minutes then dropping back to 8 then picking up again to 10 , or is that basically force 8 with force 10 gusts ?

God doesnt work that way. He gives us problems so that we can learn from our problems and how to overcome it and besides we are all grown up already He dont need to be our baby sitter all the time. Jesus used His power to calm the storm. Skill is learned, learning is not for Him

As per beaufort scale wave is just probable heights and not always as per scale heights due to our ship is sheltered inside Aleutian Islands during that time. Example if the ship is anchored inside the breakwater of the port the wave height cannot be as per beaufort scales because the waves are blocked by breakwater.

Interesting video, thanks for sharing. The Beaufort scale says it's still somewhat subjective and the 9-12s you showed all looked like 9s based on the description. Wind speed is only an approximate in the scale, conditions are the actual driving factor.

what is the colour of the sky an the sea? blue . in what colour do you write?
@bobokboboyvideos8339
@bobokboboyvideos8339 2 жыл бұрын
The colour of the sea is generally dark blue, and the sky is mostly overcast in this video. I wrote the definitions of beaufort scales in blue because we as seafarers don't have problem reading texts or lights in any background colours. You will fail in Ishihara Test

Guys does anyone know what's the highest wave height that is safe/managable for a small single person rubber boat?
@bobokboboyvideos8339
@bobokboboyvideos8339 Жыл бұрын
Only experience can tell, but one previous incident during a storm somewhere south of japan that a seafarer survive inside a liferaft almost the same as rubber boat components but no engine. When speaking of storm the wave height is atleast 7meters. As long as you have physical strength to hold on to your boat and your will to survive you will survive. The most important is God's mercy.

Beaufort Scale is based on Wind Force not necessarily on Heights of Waves. Example when you're on coast you will not encounter 14m high waves but only strong winds as per Beaufort Scales.

Nice idea but poor execution - you couldn't hold the camera stil for one moment so we could examine the sea state closely - constant moving and zooming devalued this substantially. And if the last one was F12 it had only just begun to blow because the sea state wasn't reflecting it yet.

@@mrbritannia3833 Oh but I DO pay for it - with my time and attention, with the use KZbin makes of my personal data, and with the ads that are shoved at me. To make this remark requires you to not understand the business model of social media. And since there is no Darwinian process of natural selection to weed out the clickbait misrepresentations and the poor quality videos that waste peoples' time...they just hang around forever....it requires comments like mine to help inform the choice of others that follow.
