Beaufort, South Carolina from a drone in 4K!

For Photo in a Teardrop this week, we've left the teardrop camper home, and I'm showing drone footage from our home base of Beaufort, South Carolina. All video was shot with an original DJI Mavic Pro within 30 miles of Beaufort, South Carolina. Soon we'll be back on the road traveling again in the teardrop trailer, but in the meantime, please enjoy these scenics.

Beautiful! I was surprised to see snow, as I thought the Lowcountry was immune to that. Beaufort is a great small town, situated conveniently between 2 other beautiful cities of Charleston and Savannah,

@@wollwerthimagery6267 I understand. I have been visiting in the Lowcountry for 12 years during Dec/Jan, and never experienced even a freezing night, so was surprised. However, there are some postcards around in Charleston, that showed snow while Christmas decorations were up, so I know it has occurred. It is SO out of place in the Lowcountry!

Love the Low Country! When you travel south on 17 from Charleston and you hit that Beaufort County line you know you're someplace special. All the way down to Savannah with Okatie, Bluffton and Hilton Head in between. Turn on 103.1 out of Port Royal and enjoy the drive.

Beaufort is my hometown sadly a few years ago I lost my home to a fire but I am dying to go back when I get the chance! Working on finding a good collage to go to online to make something of myself to get a job to live there again! Wow it snowed there? Not in my lifetime has it snowed (at least that I remember anyways) in Beaufort !

That’s cool, I’m from Beaufort South Carolina. We lost our house to a house fire back in 2015, we were hoping to be moved back home by now. But because of money problems and now the coronavirus we can’t. It’s on my bucket list though. Beaufort will always be my home. Because I was born and raised there. I’ve always wanted to be a lady rock musician. I lost all of my guitars in the fire. Nice footage. I have a drone, I don’t know how to work it yet but I’m going to learn. I’m going to bring it with me when we go home.But I’m going to practice filming with it. It’s supposedly connects to my phone. So I don’t have to have a computer thankfully.

Love the video! I'm going to Charleston to do some flying and this is looking intriguing to me. Mainly the lighthouse and horses. I've had horses most of my life and love the video you captured of them running on the beach and especially swimming. That was so awesome. Where did you take off to capture the horses?

Thanks Jeanne. The horse shots are actually of wild horses that live in the marsh. I took off from the causeway to Harbor Island to catch those. They let people ride horses at Hunting Island sometimes, but I’d want to get permission from the riders to do that first is I were going to do that. @@wollwerthimagery6267 I’m doing a bunch of water fall flying in Nor th Carolina and wanted to head to the South Carolina shores to shoot some lighthouses. Hunting island looks like the nicest one. I wanted to Romaine but you have to take a ferry and I’m not sure if it’s nfz or not. I’ll be staying in Charleston but saw your video and will be going to hunting island lighthouse and would love to see the horses and maybe go for a ride! I am very familiar with horses spooking and would stay up high. I have the Mavic Pro 2 Zoom so can be up high and zoom in for some close ups. I have the original Mavic pro also and the spark. But I rarely use my spark. Thanks for the information! I will check out your Charleston video. I subscribed.

It's like riding a bicycle, you have to actually do it to get good at it. Having said that, it's best to start in an open field with no obstacles. But lots of practice is the only way.

The snow was no problem at all. It was cold enough that I wasn't concerned about it melting into the drone. Wouldn't have done it if the snow was wet.

I personally wouldn’t fly it in the rain, but there is the risk/reward trade off. I have over 400 miles of flight on that particular drone. I don’t take risks with people’s property, but if it crashed at this point I wouldn’t be heartbroken.

Just curious on how difficult you found it to pass the Part 107 test as I am looking to take it.

The part 107 took quite a bit of study, but wasn’t terribly difficult. I did most of my studying with the online tutorial on Petapixel. It felt like I was failing when I took the test but actually did quite well. Make sure you know how to read maps and know how to read METARs.
