The problem is that over time the thing needs replacing, so it depreciates in value. The yield from holiday letting may be good though.

Usually the company owns or rents the ground or the land it is sat on and the occupier has to pay ground rent annually. Yes they are lovely but £84000+ for a glorified shed which if they own the land they can Chuck you off at any time? It is not for me, bricks and mortar keep their value.

@@susancurtis1651 You are right, i had to sell my old 3 bed semi in outer London, due to getting divorced, I’ve since been looking at these as an option for cheaper accommodation, but you can’t live in them all year round and there’s loads of horror stories, of unscrupulous land owners putting up ground rent by 50% or more, a year into a new tenancy agreement. Also they can demand that you upgrade to a newer model any time they see fit, sold by themselves with a massive commission on top, (of course !) I’d stay well away from these mobile homes and sites, until there is better legislation and protection for tenants / owners !

@@andy.m265 Yes Andy, I started off with a 28’ static near Bridlington, years ago. All was well for approx 3 years and then the elderly owner died and his son took over. He obviously wanted everyone off the site so that he could upgrade it and charge more but instead of saying so he was just really nasty and offensive. His dad was a lovely chap but all his son could see was £ signs. I sold mine shortly after and bought a chalet elsewhere on the east coast. The chalet was lovely for myself and family for several years but the rents were forever increasing and it was only an 8 month season. My children grew up and frankly got bored with the area and after a season of renting it out, I decided to sell it. The site owners of course made a packet on every transaction. The site where we had, had the static previously was upgraded and then more than doubled it’s ground rent. The chalet we sold doubled in price over the next 3/4 years too. I would love another mobile home or chalet but frankly they are just too expensive now and the ground rents are ridiculous. It was my plan to retire to a chalet or lodge at the seaside but they have simply priced themselves out now. I am not going to sell my lovely home to be left at the mercy of greedy, profiteering site owners many of whom rent the sites from the local councils. I realise these people need to make a profit but at the end of the day they can raise the rent and make it too expensive and very uncomfortable for you if they decide they want you or your home off their site.

There are mobile homes magazines you can buy...gives loads of information...but there are some great retirement home parks around...we looked at tallington lakes and a lovely park near nassington..Peterborough..beautiful...they ..different prices due to locations
