He is a beautiful horse, but I was horrified at the training methods used, I've seen gentler ways of training, tying up and restraining a horse with ropes to get him to lie down is something I've only seen on a farm to castrate bullocks and that was bad enough. Surely there are better ways.

Hi Virginia. This type of training is not tying up and restraining the horse to train him for the lay down. It is helping him keep his leg up so he learns to lean into his shoulder and learns how to lay down gentlly and easily. It is not abusive or traumatizing for the horse. This teaches the horse how to lay down safely and on cue. There are hundreds of ways to train your horse, so find the way that best suits you.
