Schöne, nostalgisch anmutende Szenerie! Hervorragend eingefangen durch Zürichs Spotter-Gott !!Sandro!! Schmidt!

Interesting aircraft. 47 feet shorter than its big brother but a much larger tail and of course a lot more range which is what every flight crew wants.

The SP is the coolest body-style for the 747. Shame the demand was so low for them.

I suppose it's some king of rarity these days :) If not mistaken SP was made for Japan and Iran at the time
@AG-Consulting8 жыл бұрын
It was also made for long distance flight, they had to find a way to increase range, so they shortened the fuselage to reduce weight. :-)
@winni2238 жыл бұрын
André Garcia not so sure, SPs were also used in Japan as a local shuttle between Tokyo/Osaka and the islands, where the requirements were high capacity on short range flight.

SP - Special Performance en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747SP Japan did use some early 747-200 and 300 for a few domestic route, however the one that was designed specifically for the domestic market was the 747-400D which was "missing" the tail fuel tank and had smaller fuel tanks in other parts of the plane as well, since it was designed for Short Haul. :-) And yes the SP was used for short haul in Japan, but that was not the intention of the original design, PAM AM wanted a long haul plane as the 747-100 only had around 5k nm of range and the 747-SP could go almost to 7K nm.

QANTAS had them too

Why does the tail have to be so much larger/ and what is the range
@peterashford78557 жыл бұрын
Google 747 SP and it will tell you; there are reasons
@markusbuhler23612 ай бұрын
The fuselage was shortened by 14.35 m compared to the 747-100 and -200, requiring a new vertical tail with increased area to achieve the same yaw stability despite the shortened lever arm.

Assuming they got the money, why would anyone buy the SP if they could just get the long version?
@MrMajistic8 жыл бұрын
They have this plane for over 25 years now .

Pali Aha - Longer range and lower operating cost. Why would you want to fly a long fuselage around if you don’t need the room?

What is different about the tail fin?
@GH-oi2jf5 жыл бұрын
Ned Hedrick The SP vertical stabilizer is a coupler of feet higher above the ground than on other 747s.
