Just like last Monday evening, I managed to escape for a few hours on the Welsh Afon Dee. My favourite dry fly fishing for the Trout & Grayling.
It was one of those evenings: nothing rising (confirmed by Will from Wrexham, a gentleman I met when tackling up as he was departing) but full of hope... confidence even.
As one or two fish been to surface, I rifled through my favourite 'go-to' flies and eventually tied a #16 black hackled parachute with an olive body and a Wally Wing post; IMMEDIATE success. That's just the way it goes for moi 😉👍🎣
At 6:42 I spotted a rise on the far bank just to the left of the overhanging tree and although I spent a while trying to tempt the fish with some pretty accurate (but ghastly!) casting, I headed further downstream.
I returned after about half an hour with the black Wally Wing parachute and again, with reasonably accurate casting I managed to tempt the beautiful brownie to the take.
As always, thanks to Llangollen Maelor for their fabulous water. (Derek Bithel is always kind enough to give me the nod!).
