In this video Ann gets out the dishwashing soap to mix with glazes and underglazes to create beautiful designs on both greenware and bisque pottery. Ann ultimately discovers that she has just scratched the surface of the opportunities with this unique technique. There might even be some BONUS VIDEO at the end of the beauty surrounding the LSP Research Facility. Enjoy friends!
Answers to questions we get all the time:
We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5-6
Ann typically uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video

If you would like to BECOME A MEMBER of the the LSP Research Facility team and earn a cool title that you can put on your resume, we invite you to hit the "SUPER THANKS" button or the "Buy Ann a Coffee" button to help us unite the world through pottery. We so appreciate how generous you have been recently! It has helped us upgrade our filming gear to produce (we hope) better quality videos for you. Make sure you adjust the quality on your playback to 4k to enjoy the video in its highest quality. THANK YOU!!

Ann also creates sought after custom mugs that she paints exclusively for individual clients. If you would like to learn how Ann paints with underglazes - check out her Video Workshop Series here. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/showcase/6725318

I have never seen anyone manipulate bubble glazing. This was a real treat. There are so many possibilities to this process. I especially liked the turkey baster sized bubbles over top of the smaller ones. That created interesting depth in the glazes.

I just recently did this bubble technique and had good results but I love the idea of being able to place the bubbles using a bottle or bulb. One thing I experimented with was using different size straws which did make a difference in the size of the bubbles. I had a very skinny straw and a really thick straw and the difference was pretty dramatic.

I have never seen anybody do that before with glazings. It turns out to be a very playful pattern. I think they’re really pretty, have you ever tried doing it in reverse. Like a dark colored glaze with a very light colored bubble. That would be very interesting to see. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Kathy

Oh spectacular! This was so fun and the outcomes so beautiful. I've never seen the bottle/baster approach before and that appeals to my need for clean. The video was worth the wait! (missed you last week but totally get it!) And the flowers at the end... While beautiful, not sure if it was a 'spring will return' or a jab at those 'lucky' enough to live where we already have six inches of snow on the ground... 😉

Hi Ann. Tried bubbles tech with couple of underglazes and they came out very pretty, but the transparent over glaze crawled after coming out of the kiln and my bowl gone in the drain...Btw, as the bubbles tend to settle much at the bottom, can try turning the mug upside down to get most of the bubbles popping.

No need for any extra clear glaze. does that make sense
