It is a great example of Victorian era architecture . Houses that old are difficult to maintain for a variety of reasons. Great architectural features made with the best materials and workmanship are almost impossible to recreate today. The high cost maintenance on items like the roof the plumbing and electrical as well the keeping the paint updated are the main reasons these old houses are sometimes torn down. Another reason as a single family dwelling it cannot be run without an army of domestic servants that are very hard find these days.

Love, the figures on the porch, even better the beauty of the mansion. Just do not understand wonder why they built so massive. The upkeep, wow....

What is the cage looking feature on the floor underneath the glass stained skylight? 1.06
@UrbanEyeAbandoned15 күн бұрын
From the main floor to the top of the house is an open circular balcony on each floor with a stain glass skylight at the top. The cage part is the ornate frame that holds the stain glass over the top of the opening so that light can shine down on it, the design can seen all the way to down to the bottom floor. Thank you for your question and for watching.

increased construction costs associated with the labor-intensive nature of such intricate detailing, a shift towards modern architectural aesthetics that prioritize functionality over ornamentation, and the readily available building materials that are more efficient and cost-effective for contemporary construction methods. It. shouldn't have been let to Decay The State of NJ. should have stepped in ... Decades ago and restored the House 🏠..& rented it out for Special Events & sight seeing tours ... That would have paid for the cost of repairs ..eventually... and then make a profit for the State ...😮. Just my opinion

.you did not present the years or cause of decay. It appears that incriminate electrical lines were added along walls (not restoration) w/the peeling paint from not being heated (for a length of time). Also, floor surfaces are uneven at the plank edges indicating a moisture problem. The world was moving so quickly from the late 1800's its understandable how these enormous mansions became obsolete for the next generation as interpreting and building a home is of that moment/era of time. By 1940, 84 years ago, these homes were totally out of demand/favor for most home buyers.... except "us" here today.
