As a Canadian, I'm still mourning the loss of Gordon Lightfoot. I grew up listening to his music when it was new. Having heard some of the music over the past 20 years, I'm glad I grew up when I did, when true songwriters and storytellers like Lightfoot could do it all.

Gordon Lightfoot used to drive from town to town when he was on tour, rather than fly. He was driving north from Phoenix and saw an exit sign for Carefree Highway, to the small town of Carefree. He didn't take that exit, but those words started to play in his head as he drove along, and the song Carefree Highway became one of his biggest hits. You should give it a listen. BTW, I live in Phoenix now, and Carefree Highway is still there.

I would almost lose myself in the song. Absolutely they need to react to that song, which lives up to its name.

Gordon is such an amazing Canadian treasure. And there is so much MORE Canadian music that you haven't discovered yet. Blue Rodeo is an iconic Canadian group that has an incredible thirty year rabbit hole to go down. Try, Diamond Mine, It Hasn't Hit Me Yet, Trust Yourself, Bulletproof are just a few of their biggest hits. I know you'll BOTH fall in love with their sound and instrumentation behind them. Big hugs from Ontario, Canada! :)
@Carrie-so3ro8 ай бұрын
ABSOLUTELY TRUE!! They love Canadian music when they listen to our artists - Shania Twain, (Gordon Lightfoot), Rush, Heart, Corey Hart, Celine Dion, Alanis Morisette etc. BUT - they haven't even touched the TIP of the iceberg!! I keep wanting them to discover more. I KNOW that they will LOVE so much of it! Blue Rodeo is CERTAINLY one they should hear. The ONLY Canadian Country music that they know is Shania Twain - (& they BOTH really like her.) They have NEVER done anybody else - & there ISN'T anybody BETTER Than Blue Rodeo! You are also right about the instrumentation. I was thinking how much they would like it just the other day. For Blue Rodeo - I would suggest - "5 Days in May" as a start. Not only does it have great instrumentation, it has the romantic edge that I know Amber will like. Afterwards, J. might like to especially listen to - "Rose-coloured Glasses" - & then ALL the rest! J. & Amber, I know that you normally do it this way anyways, but when your discover our new groups, it is BEST to listen to them as we were first introduced to them - either with an Official Music Video OR else a studio version. Live almost never gives the song in its best light & only do it if a person PARTICULARLY suggests it for one OR you have heard at least 1 song already by the artist(s), so you know how they sound before watching something live to see them perform.

I hope J. & Amber DO read & make note of this list & any others anybody else adds that I have not immediately thought of here. Have a great day/night everyone.

In my 60s now I've always been thankful for the music I've had the pleasure of hearing throughout my life. Mom loved the 'big bands' and the crooners...Sinatra, Dean, Como and Crosby. Dad was the 'country' man...Ernie Ford, Buck Owens, Roy Clark and I had a sis 10 yrs older. She introduced me to doo-wap, Elvis, Everly Bros, Beach Boys, The Beatles, Motown and folk. Then I had my own generation's contribution: The Monkees, Three Dog Night, BeeGees, KC disco and awesone 80s music. And I was exposed to classical at school. Talk about diversity!! l watched Top of the Pops, HeeHaw, Lawrence Welk, American Bandstand, Andy Williams, Donny & Marie, and Soul Train. Throw in glorious country Gospel, too. J and Amber's reactions are so fun and enjoyable and I'm glad they're open to listening to such a myriad of music styles. Their channel is one of the best things about the internet.

One of the many reason that the 70's is my favorite decade of music. The massive resurgence of the folk music from people like Jim Croce, Gordan Lightfoot, Dan Fogelberg, Don McLean, Ian and Sylvia, Peter Paul & Mary, Cat Stevens, James Taylor... I could go on forever. There is just something about the relaxing folk music of the 70's that can make any day no matter how hard, stressful, or tiring feel easy. Being a Millennial, I for sure fall under the term polyjamorous. My Itunes music list would make people question, how do you go from something as harsh as Deathcore, to something as easy listening as BJ Thomas, to some Nelly, to some Alan Jackson, to even some Opera...

Two of my favourite Lightfoot songs: Did She Mention My Name and Canadian Railroad Trilogy. The first always makes me smile and the latter is such a good example of story telling in word and music.
