Hi Crew,My Dad was a top 3c/3cx op and used to take me to work at every opportunity teaching me to operate from age 7 around 1977 up to Harry’s age..it’s so heart warming to see youngsters like Harry smashing life with the help of those around nurturing and encouraging him. He is a lucky lad to grow up in such a fantastic environment. Yet another great chapter. Thanks

They've been available for at least 10/15 year's. I first read about them in Earth Movers someone bought an ex self driven higher mini ex that had clearly suffered from lack of maintenance I think they they were quoted something like £60. a pin and these Expander pins were at least half the price of original parts. I have a feeling that particular machine possibly spent a lot of time on long term higher and probably a lot of braker work from what I remember this is a 2 or 3 year old machine wair l'd expect in a 20 year old machine.

I would love to know the life span of the expander pin's and can you just replace the worn expander pin's with new ones or will you need to line boar because the holes will be to worn ???????? Great video Baz and I love the vintage 3CXs, the OG British construction machine 😊
@welderfabber3 ай бұрын
If maintained they should last a life time and if the selves were to wear out, just replace maybe up the size of them, they are only mild steel designed to mold into shape each time you torque them.
@t5jerry17 күн бұрын
i see that where the bushes are installed , the xpander pins will take the play out , but surely in the MIDDLE of the pin, where no support has been added, surely the pin is "floating" , won`t this cause additional wear and weight to be placed on the bushings as the middle of the pin is not supporting any weight?
@welderfabber17 күн бұрын
No they same as normal pins its the selves that take away the time consuming down time and expensive line boring.

Those pins are a real time saver and time is money. Are they much more expensive than having to line bore plus new bushes plus shop rate? Down time is costly, that must be calculated in the cost. What an advantage that lad has at age 14, he will do well. How is your son doing? Cheers from 🇨🇦

Hey Baz, great video again. Are the expander pins easy to replace when it comes to it? Will they come out as easy as they go in??
@bluethru80819 күн бұрын
Amazing, only concern I have is if you’ve gota get the ram off in a couple of years time, do the tapers seize in? If you hit the pin or slide hammer it your just tightening the bush arnt you? I’m just a farmer mind and probably missing something obvious 🙈 I’m only asking because this could be a game changer for me if they release ok after.
@welderfabber13 күн бұрын
They come out easy, the sleeves are mild steel and mold to size. The pins are hardened like normal pins. the bush should be fine if greased bud. Worst case you replace or up the sleeve size, not a big cost an no time wasted.
@bluethru80813 күн бұрын

We tried somthing simular to the expander pin back in the 1980s. Did'nt have any luck with the system that was around then. The pin will not help centre of bore wear only outer bore wear. We went back to line boring . Yes weld and line bore is slower however it brings the machine back to factory spec and outlasts the pin system. Just my experience. cheers from Australia. ps. really enjoy the vidios.
@welderfabber3 ай бұрын
I hear you but if looked after all that can go wrong is the sleeve wears out that, they cost buttons so no down time and spending money on bore.... Bigger the machine the more these make sense.
