I love your tours of our beautiful historic towns. Thank you for taking time to share with us. I love history too, and often wonder about the different living and life circumstances of the families that lived it these homes. When I see a run down home I think to myself that someone put their heart and soul into building this and it has been left to fall down. Any, thanks, much appreciated.

Hello Philip. Welcome to the channel and thank you so much for taking the time to watch the videos and to make such a lovely comment. We are so pleased that you enjoy the channel. I too, think about the people of the past, their lives, loves, problems and joy in the world. It also pains me when I see a home or a building, that was once someone's pride and joy, being ruined or let in ruins. This is why I enjoy renovating true to era, so much. I hope you continue to enjoy the channel, whether it is the book recommendations, the travel to towns, libraries and bookshops or to the pet friendly accommodation that will now feature whenever and where-ever we stay throughout Australia. Take care, happy reading and safe travels, ABT

Good Morning @tanr9104. Thank you for watching the channel and for your lovely comment. Maldon definitely is a lovely place to visit. It does not have a 'new' bookshop but from memory it does have a second-hand bookshop, so that makes it even more attractive to visit/live😁. Take care, happy reading and safe travels ABT

@ good morning ☺️, yes I have some beautiful memories from my childhood days and going to see her in the big grand home that Calder house is , it was heritage listed years ago, and I went and met the new owners on a trip I had to vic a few years ago, to my absolute surprise the new owners left a few framed photos of family members up in the house and I loved seeing them again , there is one that my great grandmother had taken with my sibling as a baby and it was still hanging on the wall, it was so beautiful to see how they have been trying to get it back to her original beauty . Thank you again , I absolutely loved seeing your video 🥰

This was lovely, thank you for filming this beautiful historic town. That second gum tree was so full of flowers 😍 The inside of the library is stunning with those dark bookcases,it makes me regret I have white ones 🙈 It's so spacious out there, the streets are so wide. And those birds!!! There was one early in the video as you were walking by the post office,it's a sound I have never heard, beautiful!! What a treat to see on a rainy Monday in Holland 🙏🏼💕

The Library is just beautiful Anne, and the volunteer staff, so helpful and they sell books!!! Dangerous! The streets in country Australia, are often wide. I guess because we have lots of space and originally, not a big population. Our Magpie birds have the most beautiful song. I believe that may be the bird you mention. If I ever get the opportunity to film a Magpie is full song, I will do so for the channel. Happy reading.xx

Your walking tour video was so good to watch to appreciate more fully the lovely town buildings of Maldon where my mother's grandparents came separately in the late 1850's & were married there in 1861, my great grandfather Edward Wagener being a young German immigrant & his wife Louisa Spanhake a 17yo housemaid of German descent who came with her father, both from Adelaide via the gold diggings. Edward was a brickmaker by trade and started work in the Maldon brick yards with another German before taking over the business in 1861 that became known as Wagener's Brick Kiln & Yard of Long Gully in what is now Tobin Street. They lived in Maldon until they died, Louisa in 1899 and Edward in 1908, and had eight children. I am told by the researcher in the Maldon Archives that maybe 90% of the red brick buildings built from 1861 to the 1890's would have been built with good quality local Wagener bricks, including the Market Building (now Museum & Archives), the Maldon State School, the Beehive Chimney & the hidden underground Maldon Drain to name a few notable ones. I want to ask you if you live in Maldon and with your historical knowledge & sources, can you throw more light on our Maldon Wagener Brickmaker and his family. You walked past & admired their family home site at 12 High Street or one of. I am 75 & my mother died in 1996 and she was born there. I had a brief visit in January but need more time to explore the town to add more factual information to my Wagener's of Maldon limited knowledge. The family did go to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church it seems as most children were baptized there from records. I would appreciate knowing more about your Maldon history knowledge with your passion for the town.

Hello @johnanderson363! Thank you so much for joining the channel. Your own family history and knowledge of Maldon is amazing. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed reading your comment and appreciate you taking the time to do so. I am not from Maldon. I do live in Central Victoria though. When I visit towns I research the area or living in the area, I am privy to information or gossip!! Essentially the channel is about books, bookshops and libraries, but I do so love history and so the channel has now developed into imparting whatever history on a town, I can give. I am more than happy to research more of Maldon for you though, if you would like me to. I will endeavour to research Wagener Brickmakers a bit more for you in the coming weeks. I am happy for you to email me at: austbooktravels@yahoo.com, so we can keep in contact for this very reason. Thanks again John. I look forward to conversing further with you. Happy reading, Happy travels.

Hello from the Gold Coast on a holiday, far from Maldon but gold for reasons other than the precious metal. I will come back to you in an email when I get a chance to tell you a little more of the Wagener story & its roots in Maldon. My sadness at the present is that history in the town does not seem to have put a face & personality to my great grandparents & it is so long ago now that it can only be found in the places & institutions that they were involved with. This is my challenge now. The real hero for me is his wife Louisa whose own mother died in childbirth at 31 in the Barossa Valley. So this young girl was brought to the goldfields from 10yrs of age, married Edward Wagener the brickmaker at 17 and bore him 8 children & died at 55. In 1890 she was recorded in rate records as running a restaurant or cafe in Main Street, and my wife & I had been having lunch in those same group of shops. There are more houses they owned that I want to find on plans or walking. And the school & church & lodge records & searching the Tarrangower Times records. I put a Letter to the Editor in that in Feb seeking information but no one has come forward with anything yet. Cheers, John

Thanks so much! I will collaborate with you first and I certainly would like to return to Maldon before May when we go back to Vietnam. But no pressure on you as I just wanted to draw on your knowledge & willingness to return to Maldon & discover a really good early settlers story that I believe is significant in Maldon’s history as well as my family’s and is worth telling somehow & somewhere. I felt when I heard your 1st part Maldon story you might be a good person to help me & I believe I have struck gold already in a number of very relevant people I have talked to already in Maldon.

Hello Dorothy, Thank you for watching and joining the channel. This video was one of my earlier works. The whole process has been a wonderful and interesting learning curve. I explain in my first video that I have had to learn how to use the new camera, how to edit and how to navigate You-tube. To date, the evolution of the channel has been incremental and we are thoroughly enjoying the challenge. We hope you enjoy the more recent videos of both book recommendations and the travel around Australia looking for anything 'bookish' whilst discovering the fascinating and historic towns. Onward and upward! Happy reading and safe travels ABT

Hello @PollyEster333. Thank you for joining the channel and watching the video. Thank you too, for your comment. The channel is primarily a book channel. I have book recommendations, usually new videos uploaded on a Monday. Saturday sees us travelling around looking at towns with history with the main purpose of looking for bookshops, libraries and street libraries. I attempt to cover as much of the town and its back streets as possible. We hope you continue to enjoy the channel. Happy reading and safe travels. ABT
