I was stationed at the Annex from February 1989 to April 1992. The admin building was this absolutely beautiful mansion with about 8 wood burning fireplaces. We had an outdoor theater, sort of like a drive in without cars. Great memories.

My dad was stationed Kindley 63-65 as a fireman this video brings back fond memories of my childhood. We lived on stokes point road. Our flat didn't have an address just Stokes House. Thank you this is a beautiful video

I was stationed there right out of A school, 1977 - 1978. Navy Seabee working at the NavFac with my housing at the Annex base. That's my barracks at about the 15;00 time. Whole lot of memories back there, lots of good people locals and military. Drive on the left just about got me killed coming head on with the pink elephants, (local buses) I always intended to go back, haven't made it yet. nice video and thanks for the memories.

My dad was stationed there for three years. We arrived on the Islands in 69 and left to go back to the states in 73. My wife and I went on a cruise to Bermuda 3 years ago and I was amazed at how much I remembered. We lived on the base at Morgans Point and my father worked at Tudor Hill. I remember seeing the Islands again for the first time since we left and i began to cry. Bermuda was and is such a magical place. I went to Roger B Chaffee school and sang in the choir for the dedication ceremony. Such fond memories of going to Chafee. Learning to fish with hand lines, snorkeling along the waters edge at the back of our house. The people were always so friendly and we had many local friends while we were there. I would ride my bike off the base and go to the draw bridge and fish and hang out with some local kids that i became good friends with. Going to the outdoor theatre on the base. I saw the old sea plane hanger in the pictures and can remember riding my bicycle in that hanger. It wasn’t used and became the best fort for most of us dependent kids that would go to the sea plane ramps to fish or hang out. How truly blessed I was to be able to live in Bermuda as a young child. The painted houses, the white roofs, the people of Bermuda. So many of the pictures on the video bring back memories. The baseball field, the annex, the library, the church. My dad and I caught so many fish off of the sea plane ramps. My father has since passed away, but the memories of the times we shared in Bermuda are forever etched in my memory. Horse Shoe bay, the crystal clear water and the pink sand. What a wonderful time in my life. Thank you so very much for posting this on you tube.

I was stationed at the Annex as a young Marine and stood post at Tudor Hill as well as NAFAC, post 6 & 8. I have many fond memories of that place, 40 thieves and horseshoe beach was the places to be back then

I think I should recommend you join the Chaffee school Facebook group. There are many US military groups for Bermuda including the Annex, NAVFAC, Seabees, VP squadrons, the Naval Air Station, the Marine barracks and so on. It's the best place to find folks who share those Bermuda memories. We weren't tourists so it was very different for us. facebook.com/groups/7202636670

Was born in Bermuda in 1962 and grew up on both bases, Kindley AFB and the Naval Base in Southampton. Never went to the base school but knew a lot of the kids from there. These pictures resurfaced long lost memories. Thanks for putting this together. The picture at 3:49 shows the ferry boats on the right. The blue hulled boat on the left was a converted PT Boat, often used for "booze cruises" during Spring Break. 7:18 shows the Sonesta Beach Hotel. Had my prom there in 1978. My best friend was a lifeguard there. Sadly, the hotel was torn down. 8:14 is Mangrove Bay where I grew up. 8:48 was the Southampton Princess beach club where I was a lifeguard. It's next to Horseshoe Bay. 11:47 is the Naval Base Admin building where my Mom was the secretary to the base Captain. 13:11 gave me shivers. I used to play basketball in the gym. I think the library was across the street. 18:54 my Mom worked for Colonial Airlines. She grew up in New York and flew out of La Guardia to Bermuda. She moved to the Island in 1958 and stayed. 21:09 was the outdoor theater. Saw my first outdoor movie there.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching, thank you. Wish my dad was still here to see it. He was USCG, in Bermuda 55-58 and again 61-64. From my school room at Port Royal in Southhampton, I had a fine view of Great Sound and would watch the Navy and Coast Guard seaplanes take off and land. Thanks again for bringing back some wonderful memories. Bruce Meligan, Clearwater, FL.

I was deployed there in '87 with one of the Navy's patrol squadrons for six months. One of the best times of my life. It's very difficult to find anything about the place now. I miss it soooo much. I bought a moped to get around the island. Such a beautiful and hospitable place. I feel a tad melancholy to watch this. Thanks for posting.

You arrived the year after I left. If you miss NAS Bermuda, I'd suggest you look for us in Facebook. We have several groups and then there is a page dedicated to everyone and all the bases of Bermuda. The main base aka Kindley AFB, the Annex aka NOB Bermuda, NAVFAC, and we even mention the Canadians and their base.

Bill I have a friend who was there just after you. There are a lot of us on Facebook. There are groups for the Annex, the NAVFAC, the Marine Barracks and 3 for the NAS (Kindley Field). This is the link to the Annex group: facebook.com/groups/49480482357/ You will find that we all carry our time in Bermuda, close to our hearts. We won the duty station lottery. As for this video, it is the first one I ever put together and I cried through the whole thing.

I lived there in the late 70’s early 80’s. My grandpa was stationed there and my family and I went with them. Not sure of the specifics as I was only 4 or 5 years old. Still remember so much about our time there ever after all these years.

I was stationed in Bermuda 1972 to 74 and it was such a beautiful time I was assigned there by rear Admiral Gravely who passed away not too long ago but the guy told me as a young sailor I'm going to send you somewhere you can never forget and truly when I stepped off the plane in Bermuda I was in such a beautiful beautiful place haven't been back but I loved it

The pastels of Bermuda hit you like a tidal wave. It just baffles every baby sailor who ever reported to that mysterious duty station you couldn't have pointed out on a map. It was like being delivered onto a big ice cream cake. Did you look out the plane's window and were just awestruck at the brilliant beautiful colors of the Bermuda waters? For me, that was December 1983, fresh out of A school and a brutally cold Tennessee winter for NATTC. Some things we will never forget.

This is so wonderful, what a great tribute to the old island. I think these are a bit before my time. I was born on the island in 1966, my father worked for NASA at the old tracking station which is now Clearwater beach. We moved to the states, Maryland in 1974 and have been back over the years to re-capture the magic of the island. Thank you for taking the time to create and post this

We now maintain a Facebook page for NAS Bermuda but it is not specific to the Naval Air Station. We include the original NOB (seaplane air station) that would become the NAS Annex, the Naval Facility (NAVFAC Bermuda), Kindley AFB (became NAS Bermuda in 1970) and what little is out there about the Ordnance Island US Navy submarine base (very short lifespan exclusive to WWII). facebook.com/BermudaNavalAirStation1970to1995/?ref=bookmarks
