Team members in the control room aboard E/V Nautilus ooh and ahh over an especially beautiful purple hydromedusa while diving on the Central Sculpin Ridge Seamount, about 135 nm ENE of Johnston Atoll, during our NA153 expedition. These Cnidarians possess a clear velum layer in their medusa form, which has been known to increase swimming efficiency.
E/V Nautilus is exploring unknown regions of the ocean seeking out new discoveries in biology, geology, and archaeology. Join us 24/7 for live video from the seafloor and to ask questions of our explorers currently aboard Nautilus: www.nautilusli....

This small jelly is especially mesmerizing. The “sound effects” speculations are too funny. And that last *blooop* right as the vid is ending 😂

Has anyone from the Nautilus team been to Kamo Aquarium in Yamagata, Japan? it's got the most cnidaria species in the world since 2005. Absolutely amazing place. I was just there 10 days ago.

I used to frequent the Vancouver Aquarium during grade school. I was taking Beginner Oceanography Prep courses. Nerd alert~! The 'Jelly tank' is still my favourite place in the whole facility, 29yrs on. I love your videos #EVNautilus Keep it coming! 😃🙃👍👍👍

After discovering that the Cornell birding website has livefeeds to like five different feeders across the world I've been meaning to look for more of good livefeeds to put on in the background, so thanks!

What a lovely shade of deep purple! I wonder what is the purpose of these gorgeous colors deep in the ocean where there's no light to appreciate them? She's right, could put these jellyfish videos on loop, have ASMR. ❣

Either a useful molecule for it happens to be purple, or it sometimes goes to the surface and its a warning to predators, or its a leftover from an ancestor for which it was useful, i dont know!
