Period of Revelation
This Surah was revealed during the last stage of the Prophet's residence at Makkah.
Major Issues, Divine Laws and Guidance
Al-Qur'an is revealed by Allah to warn people and establish a charge-sheet against the disbelievers.
Allah has created all things in pairs.
The day, night, sun and moon; all are being regulated by Allah.
Scenes from the Day of Judgement:
Allah's greetings to the residents of Paradise.
Allah's address to the criminal sinners.
Hands and feet shall bear witness.
All human beings shall be raised back to life again on the Day of Judgement for accountability of their deeds.
Theme
The object of this discourse is to warn the unbelievers about the consequences of not believing in the Prophethood of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and of resisting and opposing it with tyranny, ridicule and mockery. Arguments are also given about Tawhid (the Oneness of God), Risalat Prophethood) and the Hereafter from the signs of the universe and the use of common sense.
Imam Ahmed, Abu Daud, Nasai, Ibn Majah and Tabarani have related on the authority of Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar that the Prophet said: "Surah Ya-Sin is the heart of The Qur'an." This is similar to describing the Surah Al-Fatiha as the Umm-al-Qur'an (the essence or core of the Qur'an), because Al-Fatiha contains the sum and substance of the teaching of the whole Qur'an. Surah Ya-Sin has been called the throbbing heart of the Qur'an because it presents the message of the Qur'an in a most forceful manner which breaks the inertness and stirs the spirit of man to action. Imam Ahmed has also related that the Prophet said: "Recite Surah Ya-Sin to the dying ones among you." The objective is to refresh the dying person's memory about Islam and also bring before him a complete picture of the Hereafter so that he may know what stages he will have to pass after crossing the stage of this worldly life. In view of this, it would be desirable that, along with the recitation of the Surah Ya Sin, its translation is also read for the benefit of the person who does not know Arabic so that the purpose of the admonition is duly fulfilled.
Name
The Surah takes its name from the two letters of the alphabet with which it begins.
Period of Revelation
A study of the style shows that it was either sent down during the last stage of the middle Makkan period, or it is one of those Surahs, which were sent down during the last stage of the Holy Prophet's stay at Makkah.
Subject Matter and Theme
The object of the discourse is to warn the Quraish of the consequences of not believing in the Prophethood of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and of resisting and opposing it with tyranny, ridicule and mockery. The aspect of the warning is dominant and conspicuous although along with repeatedly giving the warnings, arguments also have been given for the correct understanding by the people.
Arguments have been given for three things:
For tauhid, from the signs of the universe and from common sense;
For the Hereafter, from the signs of the universe, from common sense and from man's own existence itself;
For the Prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad, from the fact that he was facing all kinds of hardships in the preaching of his message without any selfish motive, and from this that whatever he was inviting the people to was rational and reasonable, accepting which was in the people's own interest.
On the strength of these arguments, themes of reprobation, reproof and warning have been presented repeatedly in a highly forceful manner, so that hearts are shaken up and those which have any capacity for accepting the truth left in them should not remain unmoved.

The object is not only to revive and refresh the whole Islamic creed in the mind of the dying person but also bring before him, in particular, a complete picture of the Hereafter so that he may know what stages he would have to pass through after crossing the stage of this worldly life. In view of this, it would be desirable that along with the recitation of the Surah Ya Sin its translation also is made for the benefit of the person who does not know Arabic so that the purpose of the admonition is duly fulfilled.

جو نہیں جانتے، ان کے لیئے عرض ھے کہ یہ شخص صہیب احمد سنی نہیں ھے یعنی اہلِ سنت والجماعت سے نہیں ھے، یہ ایک الگ نئے فرقے سے تعلق رکھتا ھے جس نے "اہلِ سنت" نام چھوڑ کر اپنے فرقے کا نام "اہلِ حدیث" رکھ لیا ھے۔ اس مبیّنہ "اہلِ حدیث" فرقے نے دین میں تبدیلی کر دی ھے، اور اپنی مرضی کا الگ دین بنا لیا ھے؛ ان کے دین میں اور باقی پوری امتِ اسلامیہ یعنی اہلِ سنت کے دین میں فرق ھے؛ صرف مثالیں دیتا ہوں: اس فرقے کے دین میں تراویح اور تہجد ایک ہی نماز کا نام ھے، یہ دو الگ الگ نمازیں نہیں ہیں (جبکہ باقی تمام مسلمانوں کے نزدیک یہ دو مختلف نمازیں ہیں - تراویح صرف رمضان میں ادا کی جاتی ھے اور تہجد سارا سال پڑھی جاتی ھے)۔ ایک اور مثال دیکھیں: اگر مقتدی امام کے پیچھے باجماعت نماز میں رکوع میں شامل ہو (یعنی دیر سے آیا جب امام رکوع میں تھا اور رکوع میں شامل ہو گیا یعنی اسے رکوع مل گیا) تو اسے وہ رکعت پوری مل گئی، یہ مسئلہ 1400 سال سے پوری امتِ اسلامیہ کا اجماعی مسئلہ ھے، لیکن اس نام نہاد "اہلِ حدیث" والوں کے نئے دین میں رکوع میں شامل ہونے سے رکعت نہیں ملتی۔ ایک اور مثال دیکھیں: تمام مسلمانوں کے نزدیک قرآن (مصحف) کو بغیر وضو کے ہاتھ لگانا جائز نہیں؛ مگر اس نئے "اہلِ حدیث" فرقہ کے دین میں جائز ھے۔ ایک اور مثال دیکھیں: اگر کوئی شخص اپنی بیوی کو ایک ساتھ تین طلاقیں دے دے تو تینوں طلاقیں واقع ہو جاتی ہیں، یہ 1400 سال سے پوری امتِ اسلامیہ یعنی اہلِ سنت کا اجماعی مسئلہ ھے، لیکن اس "اہلِ حدیث" فرقے کے نئے دین میں ایک ساتھ تین طلاق دینے سے صرف ایک طلاق واقع ہوتی ھے۔ ایک اور مثال دیکھیں: فرقہ "اہلِ حدیث" نے اپنے لیئے نماز جنازہ بھی الگ بنائی ہوئی ھے. مسلمانوں کے نزدیک نمازِ جنازہ سرّی ہوتی ھے (اونچی آواز سے نہیں پڑھی جاتی؛ جیسے ظہر اور عصر کی نمازیں سرّی ہوتی ہیں)؛ لیکن "اہلِ حدیث" فرقے کے دین میں نمازِ جنازہ جہری ہوتی ھے (یعنی اونچی آواز کے ساتھ پڑھتے ہیں، جیسے فجر یا مغرب وغیرہ کی نمازیں ہوتی ہیں). ایک اور مثال دیکھیں: مسلمانوں کے دین کے مطابق ذو الحجہ کے مہینے میں (عید الاضحی کے موقع پر) قربانی کے تین دن ہیں، اور یہی دین رسول اللہ اور صحابہ کرام سے اب تک چلا آ رہا ھے۔ اس "اہلِ حدیث" نامی فرقے نے جہاں دین میں اور بہت سی تبدیلیاں کی ہیں وہیں اس فرقے نے قربانی کے دن بھی تین کے بجائے چار بنا لیئے ہیں۔ عرض کر دوں کہ یہ صرف چند مثالیں ہیں۔ یعنی اس فرقے نے پوری امتِ اسلامیہ یعنی اہلِ سنت سے الگ ہو کر اپنا مختلف تبدیل شدہ دین بنا لیا ھے۔ اس کا مطلب تو آپ سمجھ گئے ہوں گے ، مطلب صاف ظاہر ھے کہ ان کے نزدیک 1400 سال سے ساری کی ساری امتِ اسلامیہ غلط ھے، یعنی سارے مسلمان شروع اسلام سے ہی غلط چلے آ رہے؛ دوسرے لفظوں میں ان کی نظروں میں اسلام ہی شروع سے غلط ھے۔ اور حضرات، آپ حیران نہیں ہوں گے؟ یہ سوچ کر کہ اس فرقے کے عقیدے کے مطابق پوری امتِ اسلامیہ کو تو رسول اللہ کے زمانے سے ہی دین سمجھ نہیں آیا لیکن 1400 سال کے بعد اس نئے فرقے "اہلِ حدیث" کو اسلام صحیح سمجھ آ گیا؟
