I recently got one and I can tell you it's pure pleasure to play. Very different from a guitar but it's a new musical dimension. Uplifting, I'd say. So don't hesitate to get a saz. You'll enjoy yourself for sure.

Saz has only 3 open notes. What sounds like a limitation is in truth a portal to endless freedom and creativity. Its easier to learn and grasp your possibilities, thus its easier to be creative and start to find your own sound. The instrument is still deep enough to fill your whole life on the path to be a master.

@BarakSazBaglama after measuring the divan saz, it seems the distance between the bridge and the nut is around 107cm. Should I try to tune it to kara duzeni? With string closest to the floor being on C4, would I need to tune it one or two octaves below the tuning you showed for long neck?

@@BarakSazBaglama thank you my friend,,I will look into this more over the weekend, I have a friend who runs a folk music shop,he is looking out for a long neck for me and last night I contacted a guy in Turkey who has a great selection, will take my time and do my homework beforehand, probably have to sell one of my guitars aswell but this will happen and I will definitely be in touch to discuss lessons in the future. I also play 5 string banjo which I love but have always enjoyed Eastern sounds, they are so different from the mainly blues based scales that western music is generally structured around. Will be in touch Tessekur

@@BarakSazBaglama I'm not entirely sure how to tune it 😅. I am just starting out, and most of my inspiration has come from listening to Mehmet Erenler. In his videos I noticed he is playing what looks like a divan saz with 32 frets, but I do not know how it is tuned

Hi Congratulations it’s a beautiful instrument ✨ The teaching for Cura is exactly like the teaching for the long/short neck Saz online courses. It is also quite difficult to learn from books and the English teaching for this instrument are very few. I would recommend you to take the short neck online course (with the Cura) . baraksaz.com/learn-how-to-play-short-saz-baglama/ you can lower the strings just for the time you’re taking the course (it would sound a bit loose, but it’s OK. You can take the course with it and after you finish and learn everything you can bring it back to the normal position,) so you can practice together on the same note as the course ,after you finish the course you can tighten the strings again. I recommend the short neck because the Cura will be more close to it - to compare the notes for them to be the same -it’s possible to lower the notes of the Cura to reach the short neck notes - to be able to take the course with it) The Cura is usually tuned: A (la) (bottom string close to the floor) D (re) middle string E (mi) upper string close to the ceiling (sometimes its one note down/lower) To take the short neck course, you should lower the strings, so your Cura will be tuned: E (mi) (bottom string close to the floor) A (la) middle string B (si ) upper string close to the ceiling This is the tuning lesson on KZbin for short neck. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmeafZyHbbaJe8U You can lower the strings and make the Cura the same. It’s only for the duration of the course afterwards you can make the strings as they should be again You have everything you need to learn on how to play on the Cura - in the short neck course - I really recommend it

When I tune my long neck down to G C F it becomes quiet and very loose. I currently have 0.20 on it. Could I use divan strings 0.25 to get better tension and volume with that lower tuning? Nice video!

Hello Welcome to my website for many tutorials: www.Baraksaz.com You have a long neck with 23 frets so it should be tuned C F A# Then it would not be so loose Like in this video : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXO3l59rmL-paJY If it’s a huge instrument called Divansaz so the tuning is A D G

Hi! Do you have an idea where i could find a *Long neck cura with 7 strings* ? I have seen such sometimes in videos but never ever found one to buy on the internet, but only with 6 strings. The music i want and will learn is played on a 7 string cura saz, don't know what difference it would make if i use 6 strings instead. Best regards!
