Steung Sein, Kampong Thom reminds me of Khmer Rouge era. They transferred me to labor camp in Barlung temple on the west side of Steung Sein river near the Kampong Thom city. In the wet season (during Khmer Rouge holiday) I herded water buffaloes with a small broken boat to cross the Steung Sein river alone every day while everyone went home but me. At night I slept amount the water buffaloes at the water edge as water flood everywhere except small patches of dry land here and there. At night I heard wolf howling nearby, but I did not worry because I confidence the water buffaloes would stand up to the wolf.

Let me guest. You are late 50 or early 60 years old. Your story were almost the same as mine. I still have nightmares about the life back then and I sometimes cried by myself to think of my family members who were killed and died by starvation. I don’t think I can get over it or find any closures in my life. 😪

@@L.Anonymous758 I'm in late 60's and just retired from my job about a year ago. I am a soul survival of 13 family members I still have nightmare from time to time, but we have to move on with our lives while at the same time keep our loved one in our heart. I plan to move back to Cambodia for my retirement by March of next year the latest and hopefully help to develop a few kids to be engineer because they need lots of them. When we were young, we like adventure as we got old the taste of food and old memory start to come back.
