Theyve been doing yearly look backs for the past few years. In 2022 it was Babel and last year it was Tomb Sweeping. I think it's to offer a book that they regret not making a pick earlier in the year. I thought Babel was a great pick and made sense, but Tomb Sweeping was random. Happy to see The Thirteenth Child.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I am thrilled with this month’s picks, because I wanted both Beautiful Ugly AND The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year! I chose Beautiful Ugly as my main pick and added-on The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year. And, I also added-on all three of Alex Michaelides’ books, because I love them all and want physical copies. They represent my tastes as a reader, and I can see myself re-reading them all at some point (actually I’ve read The Silent Patient twice already): The Silent Patient, The Maidens, and The Fury. I anxiously await his next and hope BOTM picks it up whenever/whatever it may be. As you can tell I’m a huge mystery/thriller fan, so I couldn’t be happier with BOTM this month. My first time getting a five book box.

They have done the yearly look back for the last two or three years. Previous picks were Babel and Tomb Sweeping. I really loved the yearly look back because it felt like a chance for BOTM Editor to highlight a book they really loved but found later. Like it felt like someone was fighting for that book to be there. This year though it feels like the book was shoved in there to have a “romantasy” pick :/ everything I’ve heard about Thirteen Child has been bad or mid

I have skipped the last two months and then this December as well. I just don’t like any of the picks lately.
