I worked as a painter in this very house back in the 80's right before I became a woodworker/cabinet design builder. It's a gorgeous house, I especially loved the great room. Is that interior "window" opening still looking down into the great room from the stairway? going up to the second floor? It's nice to see something was done with the fountain, the whole landscaping was still a bit of a mess while I was working there. There were originally two small swimming pools down there too. I really miss working on beautiful old homes like this (there is little to no work like that to be had where I live now), but people with my skills can no longer live close enough to make it work for us unless we want to waste half our lives in traffic. Whereas I used to live in Montclair very close to there (I grew up there too), and would even take walks down this same road sometimes to visit friends in Piedmont. Edit: Looks like the old cast iron windows were replaced with wooden windows later on. Those windows were difficult to prep, that's what I spent most of my time on there. A bit sorry to see they're gone, even though they're highly inefficient for heating/cooling. I would have enjoyed working on this much more as a carpenter later when I became a woodworker. I love old architecture. Someone put a lot more work into this home since I last was inside 30+ years ago now.

I worked on this house back in the mid 1980's. It was beautiful back then and good to see more restoration has gone into it since as well.

I worked on a hundreds like this all over the bay area. Not always this old, but often much older too. There's a lot of great old architecture in California. The old Missions are wonderful too if you want to see much older California back when most of it was Mexico.
