He's becoming fully blackpilled (not in a bad doomer/nihilistic way). I'm very excited to listen to this podcast. Thank you for all the amazing work you do, Macken. I'm 9 years your senior yet I look up to you. If I'd known this field of human mating choice existed, I would not have picked finance for my graduate studies.

I'm liking this post but only for the kind words, THIN ICE calling me blackpilled 😂 (though I get it, I do think looks are more important than most researchers) glad you are enjoying the content, re: grad school remember nothing is stopping you from studying these subjects informally as you are doing through my work. Life-long learning is a joy.

@@murphymacken I understand. I don't want to be associated with 90%+ of people that identify with the term either; even if they happen to be right about one important thing (the primacy of looks) they are wrong about almost every other aspect of human mate choice and how relationships function.

@@VastChoirs Yes, as much as I dislike their vitriol and attitudes towards women, I have a lot of sympathy for people who fall into that bleak worldview, as it's extremely sad to be unwanted. Further, at a more superficial level, I find the BP much less annoying than the redpill as instead of being completely false, the blackpill's primary claim is an exaggeration of something that is, actually, true (male beauty is much more important than it's usual to say).

1:28:30 simp is not intersexual competition. Simp is a hugely insulting thing for guys that are NOT getting any results and he has to pay for it. This is similar to insulting a guy because he pays a prostitute. He is shammed by other men for being a loser. Calling someone a loser is not intro sexual. However saying a attractive guy "is probably gay" to other females or "is a player" is intersexual as its trying to take a valuable quality and make it less appealing
@murphymacken2 ай бұрын
What do you think of the amount of married men and men in relationships who get called "simps" for posting their gf/wife with gifts or romantic gestures? This seems transparently like intrasexual comp, to me. I read it as, basically: "Stop investing so much bro my girl is on here."
@terratokyo2 ай бұрын
@@murphymacken depends on who is posting. When I see the type of posts it is almost always created BY WOMEN posting what THEY are getting (materialistically ) from the man .... I see this as her flexing on other women, as a status show off from the female side. Women post that content for other women mostly. Usually with something insulting like "guys should always pay for my things and bags and nails etc..." This triggers men in the comments. Of course. And when it is clearly the woman using the guy for money (she's older, looks don't match, she's not even showing his full face, etc...) I think men at that point call the guy a simp because at that point he's become a social media prop / puppet for the woman to show off to other women. As a guy you want respect. Not be a social media prop for some women's own use. In that case guys are calling the guy a simp because it's her flexing HIS assets as if it were HERs to others. This screams "I'm using him". However if the guy is actually being thanked and being said he's amazing (not a social media prop) then I don't see those comments. Case and point I post me and my girl and she does the same on IG. And with 200k views on her content she has never gotten a "he's a simp" comment.

@@terratokyo Interesting. What I've seen is very consistent with intrasexual comp, but respect your opinion.
@marriagecausesdivorce75402 ай бұрын
One man calling another man a simp is obviously intra-sexual competition. Its male-initiated derogation of another male competitor. One male trying to bring down another male's mate value.

This was an excellent podcast. Discovered you through Chris Williamson's podcast. You're quite intelligent and very insightful. Especially love how you make compelling arguments against redpill/blackpill ideas. I'm considering getting my Master's in Anthropology because of your influence. I could be misunderstanding this but at 24:22 is women's restricted fertility window a reason why they go into puberty earlier than boys? Or is it because women are the limiting factor when it comes to growing an ancestral tribe so it makes sense for them to go into puberty as early as possible? Or is it a coevolution, e.g. men are attracted to younger women so women co-evolved to go into puberty earlier?

I also try to look good because it feels good. And I bet peacocks feel good when they spread their feathers out. These explanations you offer are non-competing, as the deeper question is: Why does it “feel good” to be beautiful?
@marriagecausesdivorce75402 ай бұрын
@@murphymacken I think Marta explained that on the podcast at around 9 minutes. Beautiful people get treated better, get more tips, get more attention, get more compliments, have more friends. Beautiful people have more resources (in this case genetic resources, which could potentially lead to more social capital and financial resources if you can exploit your looks).

@@GB37B I find that when you record with a video component, a lot of non-verbal communication happens that then gets lost in the audio-only cut, and my non-YT podcast audience is 10-20x the size of my YT podcast audience, so I prioritize them.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken or misunderstanding something. I was under the assumption that the ratio of female to male babies is generally around 1:1, meaning there's a roughly 50/50 chance of having either. However, if men can have offspring even later in life and generally have the potential for significantly more offspring than women, why aren't there more females than males? This theory seems to imply that there is an unlimited number of women for males to mate with, which isn’t true if the distribution of males and females is equal
@murphymacken2 ай бұрын
Good q. Remember that many males do not mate, and many females reproduce with multiple males. These two facts make it possible for some males to access many females.
