Hey! This is such an important video to me right now! I am starting my cosmetology program in three days! I am so excited but also very scared to start as well. It means so much that you are sharing this information with us. I look forward to being able to see what tips you have while I’m beginning this journey!

Thanks, This is what I'm talkin' about.. I was 12, when I started my interest in hair. I was redoing my families hair into any and every style I would see on TV. By time I was in School to do hair,, I was doing all the Instructors Hair,, after meeting and seeing my Mom's Hair when I enrolled at 16. I was in a High End Salon at 17,, working 10 hours a day,,, Booked Solid!! I totally Loved it,, to see my Creation on the Streets,, Platforms,, and Hair Shows.. It was just in me,, This does not mean this the way it always is,, when in Cosmetology School,, Focus,, and do not be afraid of a Challenge.. You will know if this is the Profession for you,, Wish all New To the Profession all the Luck and Good Fortune,, in 2019 and always. Also thanks for the Excellent Video,,, They are so Beneficial !! Great Job,, and not a long video for all who are Truly Committed to be in this Profession.

Yes! I was so happy to find this video. I plan to start school next month and I am beyond excited I plan to open my own salon a few years after working in the field and then I have been researching some branding ideas and basics. I plan to attend school with my friend we are going to keep each other going with support and comic relief when things get a little stressful. I am excited to watch the next episode

Good video. It may discourage people but in reality if you do want to make money you have to learn and invest time as in any career. I've always wanted to cut hair. Ever since I was a child I loved the barbers/salon. I like how I feel when I leave with a fresh cut and I want to share that.

I'm an out of practice cosmetologist (expired license) I went to school in 1988-89. When I graduated jobs were scarce. I made more money at Burger King than I did at my salon job. I went on and joined the Navy trained in health care. I haven't looked back until now. I'm unable to work in health care because of disability. I'm considering having my license reinstated and doing nails. I loved the nails the most. I will still have to relarn hair to get my license back. It's OK because I can do hair some while focusing on manicures. I need to be able to stand and sit through out the day. I'm glad I found your videos. They will help me refresh myself to the industry. Big hair isn't in style like it was in 1988. My skills were perms, roller sets, pin curls and tons of hair spray. I need to bring in about $1,500 per month. More is better, but my basic need is what it is. I'm 53 now and hope I have what it takes to start over. I'm more wise than the first time. I'm also more confident because of life experiences.

I want to be a hairstylist because I feel the need to put a smile on other people’s faces. I want to be different in the hair industry. I want other females and males to be able to afford a style of their choosing. I noticed in this industry that many hairstylists have these amazingly high prices including these deposits/fees and I completely understand why but, I feel that many men and women have this feeling of sadness and sorrow in their body knowing that they can’t afford a 300 or 500 dollar hairstyle. I know what that feels like and it’s a quite depressing feeling. I believe that I am able to improve people’s lives with my future business. I’m not going to say what I’m going to do (I don’t want anyone stealing my idea lol) but, you all most likely have the idea of what I’m planning. I not only want to do hair and have just 1 business, I want multiple and I will start right now to invest like crazy. I want to improve myself to improve lives. I can’t wait to get started and I can’t wait to serve my purpose onto this earth. I want to start my hair business to change and improve people’s lives.

Just started as a cosmetology apprentice. Struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel. 25k a year sounds miserable. Is this a pipe dream career for over educated creatives like me who are tired of 15/hr service jobs?

Hey friend. Lottttttts has changed since I posted this video. There are many more ways to build a clientele faster however last I heard the pay is still around $12-$15 per hour plus tips as an assistant. Even as a stylist it could take years to make decent money butttttt you gotta love it and hustle.

Is a hairstylist the same as a hairdresser in the US? Because there's a huge difference between those 2 words where I live. Hairstylists here dont know how to cut hair, does know how to do some hair coloring (semi colors) and dont know bleach, they focus on styling itself and make up. Hairdressers know cut, color and everything related to hair.
@TheSalonGuy5 жыл бұрын
It’s the same here in USA. Barber just does men.

Hi I'm about to purchase my first hair salon that's been my passion to own my own salon ..What are the most important steps before buying and after I will be hirring stuff as I m not a hair stylist myself .
@TheSalonGuy5 жыл бұрын
I never suggest that people who aren’t in the business to buy or own a salon. It never works out. You need to purchase off of knowledge and experience rather money or desires. That being said I have loads of videos on this. Search TheSalonGuy business and you will find videos on KZbin I did. Best of luck.

Dont do it kids! One of the most stressful jobs out there, trying to please people on a very personal level and its all about how much money u can get people for. If you end up working for a corporate salon they are only concerned about how much money u can make for them. Rent a chair, youd better hope u have a ton of loyal clients cause otherwise it can cost u more to rent then u make. U r on ur feet all day and ur body aches afterward, not to mention carpal tunnel, and rotator cuff issues from blowdrying those long thick hair customers who u just finished highlighting after 3 hours. Too much work for not enough money and most salons dont offer health insurance, no paid vacations, and no retirement fund. I wish someone had told me all this years ago before i killed myself for 15 years just so i could "be creative" not worth it.
