I don't fit the Indian beauty standards too. I am from northeast india and when I went to chennai for higher studies, I was bullied by some random senior guys and they used to call me Chinese. They made fun of me on my first day in my new institution in a new state(i felt helpless). At that time I felt very insecure and tried different things to pass the beauty standards and give off more Indian qualities. However, now I realized India is a diverse country with different looking people. It's not necessary that we all need to pass the Indian beauty standards.

Let me share a little story on how your skin tone matters a lot in india. I was born with a light skin tone but my family moved to coimbatore, tamil nadu when i was young and i stayed there for 5 years. Due to the climate in tamil nadu my skin took on a darker shade and whenever i used to visit my hometown my OWN relatives called me racial slurs like "tamili akka (sister)" "kaali (black) akka" Back then i didnt realize how rude those comments were. We then shifted to Ahmedabad, gujarat when i was in 7th grade and gradually my natural skin tone came back and suddenly people were nicer, happier around me. Those slurs faded away but the pain remained. In india, people are ready to be racist to a little 10 year year old girl just because of her skin. SHAMEFUL.

Coconut oil is like every Indian's typical hair secret... Like here my mom forces me to keep oil... Especially warm oil.. This warm oil nourishes ur roots increasing hair growth and reducing hair fall.... We also use alo vera sometimes... And when I meant coconut oil it is not the cooking one... There are specific coconut oil for hair just in case u don't know

Well, India has a lot of whitening products..never have i ever seen a tanning product being used or sold. Its most whitening soaps, lotions stuff like that. And..what country doesnt what healthy hair? Like..thats not a beauty standard..its more of an obvious thing. Like.. who doesn't want to be healthy for example? Just 2 beauty standards which are both not really the beauty tells you that india is a diverse country, which has different types of standards depending on the state.
