12:34 the build up to the "Speak through the Earthquake, wind and fire" ....you really can feel the earthquake and fire in the music, and it calms down immediately. It seems you notice and play according to the lyrics too . Really awesome!
@yeety12085 ай бұрын
Taking the lyrics into account is very important in hymn playing indeed and it is up to the organist to adapt registrations to suit the words, eg quiet for reflective hymns or even verses, usually not changing the registrations as such in the middle of a verse but for the verse itself

You play the ("pipe") organ VERY well, Sir! I love the way you select the stops and registrations. AND your wife sings beautifully! Yes, this is a phenomenal selection of well-known hymns. Although I have a very limited implementation of a 2-manual digital instrument with no pedals, you have been a tremendous inspiration to me. Today is Sunday and these hymns have been my hour of worship. Continue to let God use your talents, young man and young lady.

Superb concert, incredibly beautiful! Thank you! It's hard to focus in on a favorite, they were all so beautiful. But I have to say that "O thou who camest from above (Hereford)" (48:32) is one I have had to go back to listen to again. And again. Caroline's voice is absolutely lovely and beautiful, and it's such a nice tune.

Coe Fen is my favourite - I think it's certainly one of the best tunes written in recent years, and arguably ever! It's such an uplifting tune to sing, and matches the beautiful words perfectly. It's sad to think that Ken Naylor didn't live to see how popular it's become in the last 20 years or so (although I'm sure he knew it was well received at the time) and what a staple of the repertoire it is, in so many places of worship.

I’m new’ish to your channel and loving it! Rarely get to tune-in live, but have been listening afterward, especially while I’m working. I work at a crazy Int’l law firm that has me hopping all day long, but if I have your channel on in the background I get a feeling of calm and peace. I find myself humming along with many selections that I would not have even said I remembered until I hear them and my musical memory kicks in. Some of it reminds me of when I played piano (mostly classical) but most of it is that innate, know-what-note-comes next harmony that is such a part of me I didn’t even realize it. I don’t attend a traditional church anymore, but I was raised Lutheran with all the lovely, moving German hymns and (ahh) Bach. My mom and I both sang in the choir and, when we didn’t, we sang alto harmony from the pews. You and your channel are a treasure. Thank you !!

I could not pick a favourite. This music connects me to the past I remember, and the past that was before my time.... and the good people from those times. I guess I fell in love with traditional hymns and the pipe organ when was at Nelson College (New Zealand) between 1968 and 1972. Every day at the school assembly a prefect would read from the Bible, and we'd sing a rousing, traditional hymn. I think these traditional things were eventually dropped in the march toward inclusivity and political correctness (which may not have been for the best... ). I was raised in the Christian Science church. Three hymns were sung at every Sunday service. Many of these beautiful old pieces of music were used, but the words varied. I am not an active member of any church now and I've been a bit disappointed with some aspects of organised religion. I believe in a supreme intelligence which I am reluctant to call 'God' because of the way people seem to want to fight each other over their definition of the 'G' word. So while I'm not a regular church-goer, the basic precepts such as the Golden Rule are enthroned within me. And I feel good attending concerts, weddings, funerals etc in churches... and I love it when there is some decent music involved. I can't see how anybody (even if they wear special robes and has spent fifty years studying theology) can be an absolute authority on who or what God is and what our duties toward him and the church should be. Of course there are some wonderful people in the church and some wonderful things have happened in response to prayer. I think the general shift away from a traditionally religious way of life has not improved society.... and it suits those who wish to farm and control the population. But we still have the music and we can still share the joy and sense of well-being that it gives us. Although they haven't always been preachers or outspoken in their views, I think some of our composers and musicians have had a close connection to the 'God Stuff' which they can broadcast to all in the beauty of their music. It can uplift and heal. So, Richard (along with all your predecessors and many of your contemporaries) thanks for expressing God so nicely. The tune 'St Clement' is beautiful. Many people may know it as 'The Day Thou Gavest, Lord has Ended'. I know it as an Easter Hymn. The words in the Christian Science Hymnal are different... What brightness dawned in resurrection And shone in Mary’s wondering eyes! Her heart was thrilled with new affection, She saw her Lord in life arise. She knew the Christ, undimmed by dying, Alive forevermore to save; Creative Mind, all good supplying, Had triumphed over cross and grave. With hope and faith, like exiles yearning For homelands loved through patient years, The hearts of men are homeward turning To God Who giveth rest from fears. Assured and safe in Love’s protection, Great peace have they, and unsought joy; They rise from sin in resurrection, And works of love their hands employ.
