We are surrounded with both beavers, main course dams, sub dams, and multiple plugged sluice pipes, some ponds are up to 50 acres now…although the backed up water is sometimes a challenge most every instance supports fish, water fowl, flood control, sediment retention, cooler environment, and aquifer stabilization…the wildlife we have is stunning..muskrat, weasels, fisher, bald eagle, any large animals, snapping turtles, pond sliders, dozens of fish varieties, clams, crawfish, bobcat, foxes, coyotes, game birds, etc…truly amazing….

Yes... larger river prevent trees to grow, or maybe its something more likely to hold a chainsaw. Fast water is more potent for erosion than large and spread and slow water. At least i hope you won't complain about drought season.
