How high was that beaver dam it looks huge from that angle

Hi. I trap the same on the dams.. very effective way to catch them. I use two stakes on the trap end of the rod..one on the end and other on about 10-12 inches down the rod. Keeps the rod moving side to sside. What the beaver pulls the end of your rod out of the mud? Hes not going to die. He's going waiting their on the top of the dam mad at you in the morning.

Never heard of using 2 stakes but that makes sense, I might have to give that a try

@@coyotetrappingschool1575 try it out you'll happy how it works. I use a mb 750 on my rods. Hey don't be afraid to open the dam more then that.. really get that water moving. Good luck man.

how is the trap attached to the drowning rod? is it just the standard j hook end that comes on traps?
@coyotetrappingschool15757 жыл бұрын
There's a square lock on the rod and the trap attaches to it with a j hook
@reloadandaim37410 жыл бұрын
Great Video! How do you make your drowning rod? How does your chain slide/lock on rod? We've got beaver using the corn field to build their dam.
@coyotetrappingschool157510 жыл бұрын
I make my drowning rods out of 1/2 inch rebar in 10 foot sections. I weld a nut on the deep end and a washer on the top end to use for staking. I use a lock that is made out of 1 inch square tubing that is put on before I weld the washer on top. The lock has a hole in it that is easy to attach a swivel or S hook to. They do make no weld kits for drowning rods that bolt on. I'll post a video detailing the setup and give you a link to the no weld kits so you can see what they look like.

Can u body trap in this scenario?
@thechristiantrapper36926 жыл бұрын
How come the beaver can't get away from the other side? Like what's stopping the beaver from going all the way down the drowning rod and getting away with your trap?
@coyotetrappingschool15756 жыл бұрын
There's a stop on the end of the rod, and that end is shoved into the mud so the slide goes to the stop and can't go anywhere else

do you use a wireless microphone? what kind do you use, great videos by the way.
@coyotetrappingschool15758 жыл бұрын
chris morgan In this and alot of my older videos I was using a Samson Wireless mic. Lately I've been using a Rode Videomic Pro Compact. They both have worked well. The Rode easier since you don't have to put on and turn on 2 different things

Thanks for the video. I have attempted this set before and failed. I realize know it's all about trap placement. Thanks again
@coyotetrappingschool15758 жыл бұрын
Yep, and what happens as the trap is set will give you clues as to how to adjust your trap placement. No beaver and the dam is patched, probably too deep, move the trap shallower. Trap full of sticks and mud, or snapped trap with nothing but a few hairs, probably too shallow, move a little deeper

how well do drowimg rods work?
@coyotetrappingschool157510 жыл бұрын
They work really well, as good or better than cable, in my opinion. Cable is good but can be pulled up and kinked badly, which means it must be replaced. Rods can be pulled up, but they don't kink. With cable you also have to have something to weight it down in deep water. If there are rocks that you can put in a bag on site that helps, but if you have to transport concrete blocks it gets cumbersome, versus carrying a single drowning rod, which can be long and awkward, but is not so heavy.

you need a set of long water gloves
@coyotetrappingschool15758 жыл бұрын
I know. I've thought about that but I just hate wearing gloves unless they are super tight fitting. Luckily the water doesn't get too cold down here

To bad they don't have a instant death trap for beavers like they do for rats and mice....
@coyotetrappingschool15757 жыл бұрын
They do, its a conibear trap. Basically the same concept as a mouse trap but with 2 jaws instead of the one jaw and wood base. Its designed to catch a beaver behind the head on top and bottom and result in a swift death.

This is torture beavers are important in the ecosystem
@coyotetrappingschool15756 жыл бұрын
They absolutely are, and that is why we work through state wildlife agencies to manage their populations. Beavers cause millions of dollars of damage to timber, crops, railroads, and highways. By no means are we (trappers) trying to kill all of the beavers. But a portion of beavers die every year due to natural causes. If we can harvest a portion of those beavers, and utilize them to produce natural and sustainable products out of them (their fur), then it is a win win situation. Managing the population keeps human/beaver conflicts to a minimum, and the beavers don't go to waste.

The face is people is the main problem in the nature. most of them just being selfish and only care about money and themselves. In this case, would you trap the human? I am wondering….
