Brendon, please more Eric Meichtry. I have learned a lot from him because of your videos. Thank you btw. Your channel has improved my golf game.

Brendon, these videos with Eric are some of the best I have ever seen. He has such a simple, repeatable motion and explains everything in terms even people like me can understand!

Eric Meichtry is a very talented teacher because he simplifies the cause and effects of all distances of the golf swing as with various clubs. His term "I'm assembling" - as when he's assessing the weight and feel, i.e., the heft of the club, in slowly building up the process "on plane", is especially simple - yet profound.

I will just add that it is absolutely the utmost importance to have the correct bounce on your wedges for your technique/ course conditions. Either get fit or do lots of trial and error. It's apparent chipping around the green has always been your achilles heel. And your improving and its manageable. For me my achilles heel is my driver swing. Like you im a low HC and im satisfied with my full swing on all my clubs except the driver. Just feels ackward. Also like you I can manage it. So I really appreciate your quest for improvement on your weakness. And like me I bet its partially mental. Thanks again for all you do bro!

Great vid. whats your hcp nowadays? when I see you chip or pitch it looks a little disconnected from arms and body. thats something youve heard some of the pros say? Or am I wrong?

great video.short game is conundrum for me and a lot of high handicaps. and to add to the confusion there was no mention of "flat lead wrist" that so many seem to espouse. seems like the swing and follow thru more important.just got to practice, practice.

Great video B. What does one do when the distance to the green edge is greater than the distance from the edge to the cup? (i.e.”short sided “). Carry is more important than roll- I’d to see how that works

William Tarr This is explained with Tim on short game coach it works like this . Shot contact = loft versus speed . More loft needs more speed - higher loft demands greater control contact . So if you have 2/3 carry (rough)1/3 green you will have to master higher lofted clubs 56 to 60 deg and learn bounce control . Best to look at Brendon & Tim’s video .good luck

Great. Eric's approach to short game makes sense.

My #1 swing thought: Both arms come through at the same speed. There's a tendency to fire the right hand past the left. That leads to flipping the hands and poor contact. Both arms, same speed= crisp contact.

Brendon, a little narrower and slightly open stance would probably help your contact with chip/pitch shots. You can see Eric is slightly open (pre-setting lower body) and you are square. Sternum slightly in front of ball for normal lies...over the ball for tight lies

Great video! It reminds me to practice chipping NOT on a mat at the range. Now to find somewhere that allows chipping onto their putting greens:P

I appreciate this discussion as I am someone who has the technique for chipping in practice and social play but when in comps it’s a mind thing and I get too handsy and anxious sometimes.

Good stuff. In Eric’s quest for minimal movement coupled with simplicity, is carrying the ball to the green an absolute rule for him? In other words, is a scratch golfer better off over time accepting the risk associated with a single bounce in the rough/collar in exchange for being able to hit a bump shot with a nine iron instead of carrying a 56 degree 5 yards onto the green?

jaygatsby1 Depends on the course but bounce in the rough is usually a no no (Bermuda grass) ~ due to consistency ~ bounce on a green normally has a constancy but the skill level to use it is the trick.

I thought off of a tight surface you use bounce not edge ?
@BEBETTERGOLF

Using the voice raises the leading edge so if you used bounce on a tight and firm surface, you might thin it.

I've been practicing how far behind the ball can I hit the ground and still clip the ball on a tight lie. It's been good for me because I have the tendency to be too steep.

Makes sense, but it would instill more confidence if the instructor hadn't gotten PIGged after three shots...
