It would be irresponsible of me to influence the band's decision, and I don't want to jinx the outcome, but for what it's worth, this is the kind of bass player I aspired to be. Beautiful tone Conner! If you get the gig, tell the guys not to mess with it for me ;)

man, over 7 years later I still find myself watching this video from time to time. i really hope haken brings back a little more of this style and emotion....not necessarily just the style of this song, but i thought the mountain and restoration seemed to have a little more human quality than the newer ones. don't get me wrong though, they're all amazing

Since then i've been discovering more about your band; this video most recently after realising the guy I saw in Nottingham on the bass was not the guy I was seeing on older videos of Haken. Go for it! Some people might disagree with me, but I think it's never too late too start playing a new instrument. However, if you want to become a great bass player it does require a lot of time and practice. But if you already play drums that will really help you to learn quickly. There are also a lot of benefits to playing bass. You will always be in demand, every band needs a bass player. And if you learn the music theory behind it then you will be able to communicate much better with other musicians. And also, it's very fun! Good luck!

Thanks man! The high demand definitely appeals to me and I also play sax so I have the musical notational theory behind me already - I just need to work on my fingers! Now I'm gonna be on the lookout out for a nice beginner bass... Any ideas?

Benjamin Lewis-Skeath I'm afraid I can't help you very much with finding a bass. I am mainly a keyboard player, but several months ago I started playing double bass and it went great. I picked it up pretty quickly and I've already played two shows as a double bass player. But I've never really been a bass guitarist. However, I did a little research and I found that Squier basses are really good for beginners as well as professionals. They sound great along with being versatile for a reasonably cheap price. But there are a few other options. If you are into heavy metal, you might wanna consider an Ibanez or an ESP LTD. Ibanez basses are also versatile and can also be used for genres like jazz and rock. And one of the great things about Ibanez guitars in general is their thin necks, making it much easier to get a good grip around the fretboard and play with less difficulty. And then there is Yamaha, which also has a lot of high quality products although I am not too familiar with their bass guitars. But all in all I can just say good luck with your choice of bass and I hope I was of any help to you. :)

Hi, Benjamin. Sorry for the late response. I started playing when I was sixteen, so I'd say go for it!!!

Conner Green Congrats on... well, what is it? a guest spot on the European tour? Member on a trial basis? They picked a solid rock to lean on, that's for sure! You have a metronomic quality to your playing, especially on Portals, and that's meant as a compliment :)

Well I have only see 3 guys of the audition... By far this is at least the most serious guy: Good camera, you can actually hear the bass on the entire song, this is not a home-made audition, good performance and preparation. Good luck!

Thanks, Julian! I'm lucky to have some videographers in the family, which is why the video looks nice.
