I just want to point out for those living in the southern hemisphere, -north and south windows are the opposite. So a north facing window will give bright, direct light and a south facing window will have no direct light.

Light is always a seasonal challenge as the sun moves. I moved from an apartment that had only north-facing windows (which was a challenge) to an apartment that had all east-facing windows. Much better, but I still need to pay attention to the moving sun. Thanks so much for sharing!

This video is Sooo helpful for houseplant dummies like myself, I was giving a houseplant as a gift it with No instructions and it wasn’t looking too good after a couple weeks and from watching your video I have moved it from my deck ( I thought a lot of sunlight would be good for it) but after watching your video I have learnt it’s leaf’s feel thick and similar to a succulent and it’s darker color so I think 🤔 the leaves definitely got a sunburn ( I didn’t even know that’s a thing for houseplants) I’m still trying to identify the plant, but this is a great start and so very helpful! Thank you 🙏 I really don’t want to be a houseplant murderer 😂, I subscribed and even though I got a surprise baby (my mystery plant) I want to be a good caregiver. 😊❤🎉

Thank you Becca, great video full of so much great and useful information. I loved listening to all of your tips and plant care, I think before you buy a plant make sure you have the right spot for it before you purchase it, so many times we buy a plant because it's just so cute and we just want it. I know that I am guilty of doing that, and then you get it home and almost freak out because you're not sure how to take care of it.I am to the point now where a certain amount of the plants I want are my wish list plants, and if I purchase a Maranta I know that I have the right conditions to grow them. Same with Hoyas. Sometimes I think it's fun to figure out what is going to make a plant happy that we brought home. If you pay attention to your plants they will tell you when they need water, if they are getting too much light or not enough. I know when I first started collecting plants I had the tendency to over water. Now I wait and let the plant tell me when it needs water. I also love terra cotta pots, and will sometimes paint them or draw on them to make them a totally custom designed pot. Thank you again, I would love to see more videos like this one.

But the opposite windows in the southern hemisphere! Great info! I like the tips for getting to know your plants. Still trying to figure out my anthurium (prob needs terra cotta), coleus and waffle plant. For my medium low light, I have had success with peace lily, syngonium, vining philos, ags, sans, zz - all highly recommended. I agree, you have to choose the plants not just based on the pretty. I now know I have to enjoy rex begonias in the shop. I can take cane begonias home. I actually haven't got into pots at all. Most of them are still in their black plastic ones. I do like terra cotta though and I am definitely pro-saucer. The most important tip I got from this is you can't kill a plant from one sitting of watering. Sometimes I am afraid to drench.
@BeccaDeLaPlants5 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly! Anthuriums are so tricky! I'm just getting into them -- im a bit scared, I'll be honest lol. I think it's a good point that we can enjoy plants in the shop and not have to bring them home! haha never thought of it that way but it's soo true. It's totally a myth that plants don't like a drench! I almost didn't add that but I'm super happy I did! Thanks for watching

Oh yeah! So Bugs like that aren't harmful for the plant, or so I've heard. I've never personally had that happen to me, but you can just remove them from the soil. You can also sterilize your soil before you use it by baking it in the oven. This will kill any organisms in the soil before you even use it!
