Yeah lol. The chorus actually comes from him saying in between takes that "he is a loser so why don't you kill him" because he thought he was a bad rapper. Still there something about the randomness of the lyrics that just awesome.

soy un perdedor simply means I'm a loser in spanish, so he's saying it twice per chorus

Paul Florez As I understand it, and this could be all hyperbole for all I know in honesty, but I was told that Beck and his producer had a bet, that he could write a song about absolutely nothing and make it a hit. The song Loser was born from this bet.

I see many people complaining about the lyrics, but honestly this dude has always been one of my biggest hiphop influences. To me rap is like art: You have some songs telling a cohesive story, like a realism painting. And others which paint abstract, like Beck or Aesop Rock. Lyrics can either tell you something directly, or sketch images in your head. Both are amazing!

+Bootsy Swan That's all fan theory. Beck himself said in interviews that he freestyled the lyrics and was just frustrated about some stuff I can't remember and decided to make it into the chorus
@bootsyswan62918 жыл бұрын
Zari Palomares Maybe, but there are some lines that are quite clearly metaphors. For example "Kill the headlights and put it in neutral" is an nod to someone buying illegal drugs. "A termite that's choking on the splinters" is a metaphor for someone failing at their purpose in life, and so on. As a general song though, I can agree that it might be something only he can understand.
@Finozzi968 жыл бұрын
+Bootsy Swan i don't think so, is the same thing with kurt cobain/nirvana's lyrics, he always said that his lyrics didn't had any meaning and he just write the first think that it came to his mind but people always insisted to search for dumb meanings and metaphors.

Exactly what i was thinking. Makes no sense termites literally don’t choke because airways would need to be obstructed. He should’ve researched that before permanently putting it in a hit song. imho

This is poetry~double-edged lyrics that make sense. "You can't write if you can't relate." So true. Listen closely and use your mind's eye to bring his metaphors to life. Beck's words dig deep into the state of oppressed humanity~ Society's "Losers."

August of 22 both my trucks broke down and I was broke and severely depressed after moving back to my hometown from an internship, my friend loaned me his old Pontiac Grand Prix and there was a ripped cd with Loser as the first track in the player, I kept hitting rewind whenever I listened to it and it became my anthem for the time I drove that busted up Grand Prix and even lived out of it for a bit, thank you Beck, and thank you Zach, for being the best friend a man could ask for. After a couple weeks I pulled myself out of the rut I had fallen into and fixed my trucks and ran two jobs till I had enough money to survive, still struggling a few months later but I’m on a track to improve my life now

"Slap a turkey neck, and its hangin' from a pigeon wing" 1. What the hell does that mean? 2. Thats a lot of work: You need to go into your kitchen and get a knife, then you need to find a turkey, cut off its head and body, so you have the neck then you need to find a spider? And gather string, or a small rope.....? Then you need to go to Seattle and find a pigeon (which will be really easy) But then you need to catch it (Which will be awkward and hard) Then you need to tie the string/rope to the pigeons wing, slap the turkey's neck and tie it to the pigeons wing, then hold it in the air like a boss ass bitch.

Beck was never a member of the Surfers, but this song came out the same time they were popular. Beck and the Surfers are both classic examples of Nineties alt-rock.
