Hello Last Huntsmen, very informative detail well thought out review. I was looking for more reviews on the Becker BK-18 Harpoon before I buy one and your video is the best I've come across so far. A wise man once told me you can never own to many knives and Glocks. Thank you for taking the time to share your video for all of us to view. Be safe and keep the faith during these troubling times we are facing right now.

Thanks for the great video about the BK18. I really like the looks of it and enjoyed hearing your thoughts on and seeing you do various tasks with it. You are very entertaining and informative, and I think I may order one from SMKW now. 🇺🇸

I dont hate those nylon sheaths they do work ok for back packs and leaving budget blades in your rig...THAT SAID it drives me nuts that Becker can make very good kydex sheaths for the same price ON ALL their knives yet THEY DONT? Its so frustrating when they know 99% of us want kydex.

Did you dye your micarta scales on your BK16 or did you find some black micarta scales?
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I dyed them with RIT dye from Walmart. It’s fairly easy to do. Just put the scales and dye in a pot and heat it up a bit on the oven burner. Not too hot just warm and let them sit for a bit

I am between this BK18 in black and the TOPS CUT 4.0 also in black. Where should I put my money?
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I had the Tops Cut, I sold it. So that’s that right there. It’s an ok knife but the handle ergonomics kind of sucks for common knife task, it’s ok for tactical use. Also the blade geometry kind of sucks for most normal knife tasks, it’s ok for tactical use again. The BK18 I think is better in every way. Great for normal knife tasks and still good for edc and tactical use

Thank you for this nice in deepth review ! Especially whith the sheath and how you carry it, I really appreciated that part that a lot of guys on YT seems to forget about ... Now, I have to make a choice between the bk18 or the bk16 with an Armatus sheath ... What would be your choice and why ?
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I personally really like the Armatus sheath, however I like the BK18 better than the 16. I think it performs in a lot of ways better than both the BK16 and Esee4 due to the broader blade. Most people does not realize a broad blade with a high grind will almost always perform better. @@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors would you choose this knife over the Esee Laserstrike for an extended backcountry excursion (ignoring the built in firesrarter)? I am going back and forth between the 2 due to their index finger protection vs something like the Esee 4's choil that can bite the finger.

@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors do you have any concern about the tip (and/or heat treat) in terms of batoning, processing small logs to build a shelter, or breaking down a deer? I'm leaning towards the bk18 being my SHTF one-knife-only, but have reservations about the harpoon vs a more traditional spear or drop point. BUT I love the finger protection it offers vs the trend of putting choils on everything.

Glad to see you back, and glad to see you review this blade I've been thinking of grabbing one. Since you already have an after market sheath for your 16, it doesn't matter, but the 16 will fit in the 18 sheath, and I believe the handles are the same so the 16 aftermarket scales should fit. I saw that in a shot show interview with Ethan Becker.Glad to see them not use that thick crappy powder coat too. I think I'm going to have to grab one. Thanks again!

I enjoyed this video. Another nice knife. If the steel were a little thicker, it’d remind me of the MSK-1a little. I’ve been telling people about this video I learned of while listening to christian radio here outside Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It’s a biblical documentary on the Exodus. New archaeological findings prove the Bible and it’s historical accounts. It’s a documentary not downloaded on their KZbin channel unless you pay to watch. If you watch it on Tubi tv it’s free. It’s called Patterns of Evidence. It’s really good.

15:36 could of been a perfect pun intended moment , ya missed it brother 😂 Edit UPDATE.... I just ordered this puppy , my first Kabar... I gotta sale some of my other blades , im learning what I really want in a knife and one big one is 1095hc. Im sick of stainless steels, I always feel like im using a kitchen knife and they never get any character😀 Sounds silly but it for me it matters. I bought a Tops Brakimo and really fell in love with that knife and their 1095 is wicked good stuff. Got it LOVE IT ! Hands down one of my favorite out of box experiences . I just realized today that the edge is IDENTICAL to my Tops Brakimo. You can line up the belly to tip perfectly its the same exact shape just less straight edge . I think this bk18 is gonna become my EDC.
