Oh my gosh Benjamin I can't believe it's been 24 years since you've been gone. I'm 69 now, I was 24 when I saw you guys live. You would've been 77. I'm so sorry you're gone. I lost my son to Cancer 4 years ago. No one should die before their time. I'll never forget you. I know how much you must have suffered because I took care of my son until he died right in front of me. I think he would've loved the Cars. He always loved bands that were different just like me. I pray that there is a place in Heaven for you and of course my son. I want all the good ones to be there. 😔💔💙💙❤️❤️😇😇🙏🙏🙏💕💕

It's funny that you bring up Benjamin Orr. I was a big Cars fan back in the day and saw them in concert at the old Philadelphia Spectrum in '81 during the Shake it Up Tour. Just this year, I found out that Ben was born and raised in Lakewood, OH., which is about a 12 to 15 minute drive from where I live. It's a small world.

So much underrated song from the The Cars. Man I feel like still being the 80, and gradating in 87 from high school and "The Cars" albums came out in the my school years. I'm jamming the cars albums last night in my garage and my kids going; what is it like being in school in the 80's dad??? Well I going tell them it was the best years tonight when I get home from work today!

I know what you mean, I was there too and sometimes it feels like it was just a dream. But I have to say it's kind of sad how kids today are asking their parents about their time in H.S. with such a wishing attitude..... Why aren't they making their own Times, their own destiny and fate. This society has really sucked the life out of these kids. I'd say it started somewhere in the mid to late 90's and now it's just a completely vapid, lifeless, soulless existence. I don't know how they can just keep plodding along.....

What's so cool about the Cars is that it's about really great songs performed well. Not about choreography and celebrity and antics and spandex and spectacle. Each member is like a back up to the others. They almost seem like one of those 50s or 60s bands on Ed Sullivan in demeanor and yet they are a timeless kick ass rock band. No grandstanding. The singer sings then backs up to let the other instrumentals have prominence and then cooly steps back up to continue singing. Just a cool band with cool songs. I use the word cool a lot in this comment, but that's because the Cars are so damn cool.

It is clear from the many comments, and I agree, the Cars evoke some of the strongest feelings of nostalgia for that era when compared to other bands of the period. I think in addition to the music being so good, it was due to the real shift in rock sound and cultural change that they ushered in.

Oh my word. I haven't heard this song in AGES!!!! I just turned 17 when this album came out. Absolutely LOVED this band and their music!!!! June 1979! Brings back such incredibly beautiful memories. And Ben .. Your voice... Ohhh my word... he is just gorgeous.. just a beautiful looking man with those dreamy eyes piercing through your soul. Good gawd.

2 coolest rock stars ever in my opinion , Benjamin Orr & Jimmy Page..
@johnnya86719 күн бұрын
They were a perfect blend of that techno punky thing and just a straight up rock band. Quirky lyrics, memorable guitar breaks, great singing. Ben Orr killed the rockers, ric ocasek nailed the punkier stuff. Great memories. Never saw them in their heyday, my loss.

These guys were f$@king great, one of the best concerts I've ever seen, clean tight pure sounding, and I've seen many of the best. Their sound was so unique with pop, rock, new wave, techno influences combining to make their own original sound. They were so fresh sounding when their first album came out, everyone was playing it at the parties. I'd go as far as to say no one was like this since The Beatles in uniqueness and sound.

Ric wrote all the songs except for three or four where he shared songwriting credit. They were all excellent musicians of the highest order.

Jesus, I was 15 in ‘81. Now I’m 58. I’ve had a great life, but it was never better than when I was a teenager in that decade. I think we really took for granted what a time it was, while we were growing up.

1984…I was freshman at Purdue University living in Terry Courts. One of my unit mates was playing the cars on his pioneer stereo. I thought wow this band is cool. 40 years later I watch and listen to these videos and still say to myself, wow these guys are cool. I live vicariously in the 80’s. Best times ever.

Are you kidding? I'm a boomer who listened to these guys in the '70s and they were huge. Everyone I knew had their albums. In addition, Elliot Easton was a big influence on many guitarists including Slash of Gun's and Roses.
@broderecky28 күн бұрын
@@warpdriver2076 Agreed, but when they went more pop, a lot of the old fans abandoned them. Their influence can't be denied but I don't think they get talked about as much as some other bands of their era.
