You're a most pleasant speaker with no trace of the horrid modern speech deformities i.e. "like" and "upspeak" and "voice fry" etc. An added bonus, you don't gesticulate wildly with each word as if you were explaining to a mentally deficient audience. Thank you for the info and for the pleasing delivery.

As a doctor promoting LCHPMF and Intermittent Fasting I often encourage patients to have 1 square of dark chocolate to satisfy that sweet craving after dinner. If you take the 1 square and break it into 4 pieces, you now have 4 chocolate bites, but only at ~4 carbs and you satify the cravings. To make the comparison fair you had to have 3 squares. THis was a great demonstration and a reason I promote the use of CGMs as well. Nicely done! -Compton Kurtz MD

What a great idea to check meals and snacks this way. I'm curious to try some of my favorites. One year our family was on a very low budget and we would have meals of popcorn (cheap), apples (from our own trees), and cheese (WIC help). It's actually still one of our family favorites 20 years later, and I'm in a financial place now that I could check this out to see how those things all balance out together. I appreciate Levels way of letting people do what is affordable.

I make popcorn but I never eat more than a cup at a time and never a second cup on the same day. I manage this by "processing" the popcorn when it's popped into two cup bowls with tops. I almost measure the 1 cup out when I pull the first cup out of the storage bowl. I do not get a higher spike than pecans or almonds because I keep it to one cup. I usually use everything spice and a pat of melted butter. One cup does not add any weight (I weigh myself every morning). I find the fiber is important, and 1 cup is a slow rise for my sugar. (I text with a normal tester 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 90 minutes later). So popcorn gets a bad rap because people don't pay attention to how to incorporate it into your diet.
@joannathesinger770
@joannathesinger770 Жыл бұрын
I have to add...to contrast...that just because your body processes carbs one way does NOT mean that everyone processes carbs the same way. Your spike is not everyone's spike. I don't actually have a "horse in this race". My A1C was 4.1 in September, and the lowest it can be is 4.0...but I do know that I process carbs differently, even depending on the specific day or week.
@larmesdemiel

Thank you for saying this. I never eat more than one cup of popcorn and only eat it once in awhile. I cannot imagine eating that much popcorn as a snack & I've never seen that amount as a recommended serving size. It seems unfair to poor popcorn 🍿🥰 Life is too short to eliminate fun snacks. Just need to be mindful of portions. Moderation really is the key to everything.
@NanZingrone
@NanZingrone Жыл бұрын
@@joannathesinger770 Congratulations on that A1C! That's stellar. That's my goal. Right now I'm 5.4, but I have about 40 pounds I want to lose over the next year and I'm finding the way my body is processing carbs is changing. It's always interesting when you're Type 2.

Please, consider using the traditional finger prick glucose monitor. I get 100 strips for $20 in my local pharmacy and I test my blood glucose several times a day. It really helps to not stray too far from a healthy diet (before I would just start slowly increasing portions and carbs but the glucose monitor keeps me on track)

So, cool you did this, and thank you. I have had a love of gorging on popcorn forever. I cut it out, but then added it back in, non GMO, organic, etc....but had to cut it out again, and now know why! My body really likes low carb, decent fat and protein levels with tons of greens and low carb veggies! Great experiment.

Thanks for the video! My favorite snack IS popcorn (with butter). Frankly I was not shocked by the results of your testing. I rarely snack; but when I do, it’s buttered popcorn! This is how I justify its healthful effect on me: 1. So pleasurable & satisfying. 2. Does not give me cravings for other “bad” choices. 3. It’s a very infrequent small indulgence. Small in regards to portion, as well as it does not end my world, so to speak. This video has given me that internal nudge to purchase a CGM & membership with Levels. My first test will be a Diet Pepsi or Coke Zero. These two are my kryptonite. 😢

Great tests. I gradually lost 92 pounds in 18 months by doing calorie restriction. I learned to stop adding sweeteners to food and to eat a low sugar diet. I also learned to prioritize eating vegetables and nuts. It's great. I do eat sweets, but now I know how to eat a healthy diet to return to a healthy weight.

Another thing to score the snacks on. Some snacks make you want to eat more of that snack, and some snacks leave you satisfied after one serving.
