I worked 2 years at a flower shop during college. I was only getting $0.50 an hour and worked 35 hours a week. I learned so much but they never wanted to give me a raise so I left. I worked at flower shops during holidays. After graduating from college I was an educator I still had a side flower business-did friends weddings, sold items during holiday. I still love creating with flowers.

Thanks for sharing! That does not sound like a good place to work. I am glad that you started your own side business and I am happy that you are still creating with flowers!

I took a floral design class and got a certificate but it was in 2014. I would like to get my foot in the door but haven’t had luck since I don’t have shop experience. I really loved it but currently have a full time job.

Hi Grace! Thanks for your comment! That is great that you already earned a certificate for floral design and that you enjoyed it. I would recommend trying to make one arrangement per week right now to build your portfolio. And perhaps you could do some flowers for friends and family to start building your work experience! There are some florists out there who like to hire people without experience because each florist trains in their own way. Keep me posted!

I’m so glad I found your channel!! The quality of your videos is 👌🏼 I’m interested in growing my own flowers with a focus on English garden roses and peonies. I want to do it part time and sell at farmers markets to start. I’d also love to sell to florists. What do you think is the best way to approach a florist and offer my flowers? Thanks! 😊

Hello Jessica!! I would recommend getting involved with your local cut flower growers association chapter! This will be a good starting point: www.ascfg.org/ I also recommend my friend, Beth´s channel. She is a flower grower in Oregon: kzbin.info/door/z04ry7le2fG4XHnqj3147g Let me know if you have any more questions! Glad you are here!

What a great video. So many great inspirational ideas. I've been doing floral projects here and there. I always have flowers left over and then make smaller arrangements for home or family and friends. Can you suggest the best approach to purchasing the right amount of flowers so I'm not always left with a ton of leftovers. Actually I would love for you to do a video for someone like me trying to do custom orders. For example, would you recommend a separate fridge or cooler in the garage ? That is my bighest dilemma. Where to store flowers l, esp leftovers. I would love to do more projects or would offer more orders except my "storing of diff types of flowers" stops me from going full ahead. I would love to hear your advice. Thank you

Hello! Thank you for your comment! Yes, you will need an area designated to your floral work and you will need a cooler or at least a fridge if you live in a hot climate or will be doing summer weddings when the weather is warmer. I have all the resources about timetables for events, making recipes, and creating floral shipping lists in our wedding course which you can check out here: www.chelseafuss.com/weddingflowerscourse All flowers should be stored in cool, dark areas. In our floral foundations class, you receive all the info about conditioning for 50 types of flowers: www.chelseafuss.com/floral-foundations I will add your video suggestions to the list! Best of luck with your floral projects!! Starting with family and friend projects is a great way to get a business going. Great work!
