Its called serving the music instead of your ego. Takes time to work through the ego phase and requires ear development and listening to others more than yourself

@@bassomatic6055 You are right there, I think that your statement applies to all members playing in a band. It takes it from chaotic to cohesive.

I have picked up and set down the bass for over 50 years. I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of books, tapes, cds, DVDs, and equipment. And this what I have been looking for. I can't thank you enough. I'm headed out, right now, to try it again at age 65. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Thank you, thank you, thank you.💖👍🥰🙋♂️...I'm gonna paint by number....at least to start.😉
@BecomeABassist5 жыл бұрын
Awesome @Ken Hieter! And absolutely nothing wrong with painting by numbers at the start. Use the formulas to lay your foundation, and when you're ready, you can build on top of it.

This was as damn good video; helpful. There are of course, some famous bassists who don't stay with the kick and some that don't connect the harmony at times. Many or most pop bassists do for sure.

As a complete beginner, what I love about your approach/videos is that you teach the fundamentals of bass playing that can (depending on skill level and creativity) be applied in differenways. Very different to 'impress your friends with these x most famous bass lines"
@stevebrawner91196 жыл бұрын
Great advice, for beginners as well as seasoned bassists, nothing wrong with keeping the bass line simple and in time. Most other musicians will appreciate it.

Absolutely, I've cringed at some bands where the bass player and drummer don't listen to each other. Ruins the song as it sounds just off..
@DeepFriedBeans238196 жыл бұрын
This is 95% of being a bass player, just playing root notes all day, but if you're a motivated and talented bass player and youve got some good theory knowledge, youll learn to jazz up those notes by using filler notes and throwing in some style, some slap etc. But at its core this is bass playing for a lot of music

Thank you for this video, which has been by far the most useful to me as a beginner bassist. I now play in a 5 piece folk band, where we dont have a percussionist, but I imagine what a drummer might play as a simple rhythm, and make my bass line follow that. It is surprising how a simple "root notes only" bassline can propel a band......

Nice and simple, and yeah, really powerful! Another way you can have fun with it is how long you hold the notes. Swapping from playing a "long short" pattern, to a "short long" pattern can really change the feel, even though you are still just playing roots and with the kick drum. Its the power we have!! :D

Hey! I like your videos; keep them coming! I did notice that the levels between your voice and when you’re playing are very different. When I have your voice at a comfortable level I can not hear your bass, but if I turn it up so I hear the bass, it sounds like your yelling. If you can fix that, I’m sure myself and others would benefit even more. Thanks again for your content!
