Get a useful education you can fall back on during the next lost decade. That’s not necessarily a bachelors degree. I helped hire many pilots, and I pushed forward candidates who showed dedication towards something for a significant period of time. That’s really what college proves you can do. I’ll never forget the deep sea welder I rallied for, who when asked why he didn’t go to college, replied “I could have spent 4 years doing keg stands and being hung over, but I wanted to make a lot of money, and master a skill, and invest the proceeds in to flying and training.” I was sold!

That education or trade training can wait right now. If you’re a good student get that flight training done ASAP. Everything at the airlines is based on seniority. Four years is a long time to lose in seniority. Right now the gravy train is running over but it could stop any time. Once you’re hired at your airline you can start concentrating on learning a trade on the side or get a Degree. If things turn South the first thing that goes is the, not having to have a Degree, requirement. I’ve been in aviation since 1982 and it’s never been like this, and it won’t last. If you have the opportunity to go to a full time flight school and get your ratings in 6 months time, do it. The difference in a year of seniority down the line could mean sitting in the co-pilot seat 10 years longer, costing you millions of dollars.

Bud, you have to look at it in a different light. They're not going to hand out flight training funds like candy at Easter. Flight training is a 10-12 month (minimum) commitment. Most people probably finish in 1.5-2 years. Most people will wash out of the program due to time+ money required.

There _is_ a shortage. The $100K is just the bare minimum cost of the schooling, simulators, teachers... Even in my country, the airlines are slowly getting desperate and opening programs to make it easy for potential students to find it and enrol. Though, they still require them to shell these costs.

Don't do it just for the money, you will drop everything. Opportunities with other career choices to make tons of money is a pipewelder especially if you travel, I quit to work towards piloting.

Lmao the reason there is a shortage is because it costs $100k at least lol

It’s a shame that they have really dumbed down the requirements as well as experience now.
@BillyKone
@BillyKone 4 ай бұрын
They haven't really.. keep in mind "4000 hours" just means 4000 hours flying.. it could be that you flew the "same hour" 4000 times without really learning anything new but were just doing the same flight in your local area over and over again.. pilots go through enough in flight school and later in type rating to be more than qualified to fly airliners.. in Europe there is no hour requirement to be hired by an airline and there are no problems with the pilots
@altemp100
@altemp100 3 ай бұрын
Then you are not familiar with what’s been going on in cockpits of major airlines in the U.S. There is a massive shift in the experience level of pilots in the major airlines and it is a problem. The premise that just going through a flight civilian school of some type and type rating and being fully qualified to fly an airliner is horrifying. Some foreign carries do this and are babysat for a huge amount of hours..just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s safe’ German Wings as an example.

It's a temporary shortage soon the terrible regional pilot's pay will come back . Here in the middle east region passed through multiple true pilot shortage and in such circumstances middle eastern earlines sponsored thier national training for free or at worst discounted the cost from.the pilot pay and I don't see this happening in US

@@jibrillndny9126 Middle Eastern airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, El Al (Israel)... they pay the highest because they only employ citizens. In America and other places, they allow foreigners too, so the salaries aren't that great.

There is a pilot shortage in America. It's just like I said - Middle Eastern countries strictly only employ their own citizens. Usually, retirees from their respective air forces. But in America, Europe, Japan... you can just allow immigrants to fill-in those ranks. So the pay isn't that great.

Is this why there are so many near misses at airports this year? I’ve read about the issues stated by pilots with dated ATC tech, staffing issues, but as a frequent flier I feel like 1,500 hours is a drastic reduction.

Degrees are a joke. I've been a software engineer for 28 years without a degree; ENTIRELY self-educated, and I can code circles around people with a degree. Now, I tried to become a pilot recently, but FAA BS around certain medications made it such a pain in the butt I said to hell with it.
