Yass! Let them know about IM. I want to specialize in endocrinology when the time comes lolz

Endocrine is so cool and incredibly helpful to so many patients with chronic diseases! I love working with the endocrinologist.

Just want to thank you so much for making this video! I am pursuing IM residency right now and have easily been discouraged by IM not feeling "cool/sexy" enough by others.... so you helped me remember WHY I wanna be an internist! THANK YOU!

We can't help what we like! lol I love learning and knowing what's going on in my patient's disease process. It is also incredibly helpful to know how to manage basic things like diabetes and HTN both inpatient and outpatient. We get a lot of internal medicine consults for these "less exciting" things that are still soooo important that everyone else forgets about lol. You're so welcome!

Thank you for making this video! This is something that I'm starting to think about now. Can you make a video (or link it if you did already) about your involvement in clubs or research during medical school? How important is it starting from 1st year? I know you said that you kind of already know that you wanted to do IM early on. Were there any other specialties that you considered and how were you able to rule them out? -Chisom

Hello doc! What specialty did you take to become a IM doctor?
@ShesJustLivin3 жыл бұрын
The edges sis... LAIDT! I need to know your edge control 🤣 Thanks for the information! Quick question... is it common for those who do a internal med residency to do that for a couple years after graduating then decide to do a fellowship later down the line?
@DrTreMD3 жыл бұрын
LOL thank you! just eco styler gel. And it less common but I think becoming more common. A lot of people may try a few years of being a hospitalist to get their families together or what not but more often than not, people go straight from residency into fellowship. But you can do it either way.
@amandaeastern74053 жыл бұрын
So cool learning from you! Now that you have been been in the hospital for a few months, do you still want to specialize in cardiology or are you open to other specialties?
@DrTreMD3 жыл бұрын
I am 100120310% sure I want to do cardiology lol I am so ready to specialize in only one thing lol my brain is exhausted.

Just lost my mum 3 days ago, really painful experience. I wish I was a doctor already, I wish I was already practising in the us, maybe my mum would be save now. Always wanted internal medicine though. Will soon be through with med school. Please USMLE steps be kind to me. I really want this.

Would you say that there’s a pretty good life/work balance? Are you able to still enjoy family time and be in charge of your schedule? If you were to get married and have kids would you say that this specialty allows for a feasible family lifestyle as well?
@DrTreMD3 жыл бұрын
I think once you’re done with residency, absolutely! It’s a nice balance of work and free time as far as medicine goes. Many of our attendings have families! The schedule for internist who work in the hospital is often one or two weeks of work followed by one or two weeks off plus they get vacation time.
@gracefomani56173 жыл бұрын
@@DrTreMD thanks! I’m currently in the application cycle and have been interviewing so praying for the best. I definitely seem to lean towards primary care! Do you think doing the 3-year accelerated primary care path Med school programs is worth it? I am just scared of not having enough time to study for boards since so much content is condensed in 3 years? Also do you work with DO physicians as well?

yes you have to go through IM first to specialize in anything!

Dr how hard is USMLE for foreign student? Is it like really difficult? How much time it can take for me to prepare for first step!
@DrTreMD3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure from the foreign student perspective but would recommend using the main resources that we use in the states to study for USMLE step 1 which are The First Aid Book and UWorld as your question bank! As far as how long you study it all depends on the person and how quickly they can get through the topics and question bank and feel ready to take the exam.
