As a woman i have carried a 2 inch revolver since 1970. Currently and for the last 20 + years i have carried the Ruger SP101 in 357 magnum with Hoge grips. I shoot revolvers (Ruger GP100 and red Hawk) in completion at least once a month. I have never had finger or hand priblems. I was surprised that you didn't mention a belly band holster of some kind. I have used them for years and are my go to holster. I feel about semi auto like you do about revolvers. I hate clearing malfunction in an auto. Hi I’ve been carrying a S&W 42 and now a 642 since starting in law enforcement in the late 1970s. I’ve found them to be excellent backup and UC weapons. I’ve always been able to qualify with them both in the State Police course and now in LEOSA. I suppose that sights and smaller calibers are ok but remember this is a close contact weapon and I don’t think I’d be engaging at more than 20 ft. Nice video. Good discussion. My recommendation for new shooters and most ladies is the Ruger LCR in 327 Federal (and has been since it's introduction). It's light enough that it's likely to be carried instead of left at home. It has six shots instead of the five for 38 snubs. It's easy to shoot for most newcomers and ladies. AND, the reason it's so advantageous for new shooters is that it can use 32 S&W short - a pipsqueak round for newbies to learn with. It can use 32 S&W long - a highly accurate round as attested to by thousands of bullseye shooters - for development of accuracy. It can use 32 H&R which is a decent EDC cartridge in its own right, and readily controllable by ladies and those with less grip strength. And, when ready, it can use 327 Federal which closely approaches 357 mag performance with less recoil and less controllability issues. The S&W 632 you've shown isn't one I've handled, but it looks good and most of the things mentioned for the Ruger LCR will apply to it. The Smiths will usually weigh a bit more and have a slightly heavier DA pull, but all in all it would be a good choice also.

@@dreamfury2351 - My brother is hard-core right handed and finds it difficult to fill the cylinder in the same way most of us do. He opens the cylinder with his right hand and then transfers it to his left hand with the open cylinder pointed to the right (kind of like rolling it upside down into his left hand). He then loads the cylinder with his right hand - closes it with his left - and then transfers back to his right. He has gotten pretty quick with his technique. If your aunt has a similar issue with hand dominance, you might see if something like this would work. Also, it might help to lightly chamfer the chambers to remove any sharp edges (a little bit goes a long way).

Welcome to the magnificent .32 cal world! So glad you could make it here! .32 S&W Longs are great for training and familiarization with your weapon. They are also relatively available and somewhat inexpensive. And as you mentioned, the recoil is almost nonexistent. Unfortunately, the .32 H&R Mag cartridges are not so inexpensive, they are not so readily available, and basically only available in Personal Defense style rounds. And while the H&R Mag does offer more "punch" the recoil difference is not significantly different than the Longs. I carry a 3" SP in .327 Fed Mag and I have found that .327 ammo, while not cheap ($40 or so for box of 50) is far more available especially "on-line". And it is really a step up from the H&R Mag's. Same revolver, .32 H&R Magnum, with a Titanium cylinder. They were discontinued many years ago. The sights and trigger job of this Lipsey's offering are fairly useless for close range self defense...but it is the only way to get a S&W .32 H&R Magnum currently. And it's cheaper than trying to find a used Model 332. Most people who have a Modell 332 aren't selling it. For good reason! S&W J Frames have been my go-to off duty and concealed carry handguns since 1973, both as a police officer and now, as a retired police officer. The .32 H&R magnum is every bit as good for _close range self defense_ as the .38 Special, and more pleasant to shoot. The problem with 32 ammo is you can’t walk into your local gun store and find it typically. It can be found on line. But, it’s typically over a dollar a round. With companies like S&W and now Ruger now releasing new pistols in 32. Maybe the ammo companies will get on board and start producing 32 ammo and make it more affordable and available.
@Lutz1018 ай бұрын
Enjoyed the review. The Ruger LCR has a lighter trigger pull, while the LCRx variant has an external hammer so you can also thumb cock it for a much shorter and lighter trigger pull. The Rugers are chambered for the .327 Fed Mag round which allow you to use the less powerful .32 H&R Mag rounds. I like the .327 Fed Mag loads but the recoil sensitive would likely prefer the less powerful .32 H&R Mag rounds. The external hammer also allows you to do a cylinder rotation check after loading it without having to pull the trigger back enough to unlock the cylinder, and allows you to keep you thumb on the hammer when drawing it or reholstering it to stop the hammer coming back if something catches on the trigger. The hammer also facilitates the use of a gun retention strap. You really only need an internal hammer if you plan on carrying it in a pocket and want to be able to shoot through the pocket in an emergency.

Revolvers have some distinct advantages if you can overcome the main problem for small and female shooters - the heavy trigger and “snappiness” of the air weights specifically. “Hurts to shoot” is a function mainly of those 2 issues. The trigger issue can only be overcome with practice. The “snappiness” can be overcome with practice or carrying a heavier gun such as a Colt Cobra or model 60 or 36. On this review, the only thing I’d change would be that in my opinion you’d rather carry the 38 version. 38 special even with light loads is going to perform better than 32 or even 32 H&R.

I like that you brought up the fatigue you experienced firing double action and that exercise was the solution. I often hear experienced shooters recommending revolvers to people with poor hand strength. If a person's hand is too weak to grip a slide, what makes you think it's strong enough to pull a DA trigger?

Speed loaders are smoother than speed strips.

@@gjhowardlook up the wrapid loader. Spring speed strips that curl up into speed loaders.

You can reload with either smoothly. Some people just don't know the tricks with strips. Zeta6 makes excellent speedloaders and strips

Revolvers are great for single assailants. Snub noses kick like the devil but smaller calibers are just fine. The 32 caliber was originally a police round there are revolvers that are chambered in 32.

I just got my Smith 432UC today, it's my new go-to ultra-light summer carry. I normally carry something larger all day every day but in those few use cases where the choice is no gun or this gun in appendix carry clipped to some gym shorts as I'm taking the trash out at 10PM before bed then I'd say it's a winner.

I love snubbies, I think they’re an old standard for close-quarters shooting and are safer IMO. That said, they’re not for everybody-Glad you said so. I think a good trigger job may help.

VZ needs to release the grips on their website

I know a guy (from a local gun store) who bought the UC .32. The boot grips filled the hand perfectly. I hope VZ offers them separately to the general public.

I've carried J and K Frame for years and bought the 632-UC as soon as it was available. I've installed the Wilson Combat spring kit and now the trigger is just right.

I have a Glock 43X (my favorite) and a SW 340 MP which is almost 100% identical size to the one you have in this video and after the first 3-4 months the 340 MP is all I carry. YES, limited capacity but it forces one to be more judicious with shots, but also it's super light, easier to conceal and has built in tritium sights. Loved watching this video and thinking about getting this EXACT model you have for my wife.

The best part of this video is that you showed proper strip use, space for the finger between every two rounds. One question, are you focusing on the target with both eyes open?
@SheEquipsHerself6 ай бұрын
Thank you! I a,ways have both eyes open when I shoot…in the longer shots I usually focus on the front sight with the target somewhat blurred in the background.
@rodvan-zeller63606 ай бұрын
@@SheEquipsHerself Thank you for the reply. My personal choice is a Smith and Wesson model 43c 8 shot 22lr with stingers. What distance do you consider longer shots? Is it an appropriate distance for a self defense situation?

Those old airweights are beautiful, but definitely are really snappy. My sister has one that ive fired a few times. Im a decent sized dude. 6'2 270lbs. Fairly sized hands, and even for me its snappy.

32 is hard to find ammo for. I have a Ruger LCR in 357. I can't hit anything with it shooting 357 Ammo. However loaded with Remington XTP 38 special 110 grain I can shoot a rapid 5 inch group at 25 yards. The other plus with my LCR is it stays upright in my right pocket in my pants with no holster and comes out smoothly if needed.
