My parents are too poor to pay for any of my college but too "rich" to let me get any financial aid. Edit: Being middle class in this country is hell

If my parents forfeit their parental rights over me and I become emancipated, the financial aid forms will not ask me about my parents’ income. How do colleges “not accept” emancipation if my parents’ financial information won’t even be on the form? In other words, how will they know how much my parents make to give me a less-generous financial aid package?

What if your child has moved out the house at 19 and decides to go school at age 22 are they not independent at that point?

Waiting for an answer on this same question. My son is 21 now, move out at 18. He lives on his own working and paying his own rent. He decided that he wants to go to trade school and asking for my information for fasfa.

Hi. I am 20 years old and live completely on my own. My parents don’t help me at all financially except for one bill because it’s cheaper to have a family plan. Anyways, would it help me financially as a working college student to claim myself as an independent? Also, can I claim as an independent even though I’m 20 years old. I have two jobs and go to college.
@edzamoracollegeprepchannel38202 жыл бұрын
You could try to claim as an independent but most colleges will still want your parent's financial information. They require that you are 24 years of age to be deemed independent.

Independent student age 26 in school. Between student income and assets, how to maximize student aid chances ?
@LBPHogan2 жыл бұрын
You said colleges will not accept emancipation unless there is neglect. How do they know this since it seems they ask for a court order vs describing why you were emancipated? It is like saying you are married but how strong is that marriage. I can see them asking for various documents like bank and credit card statements, tax return, pay stub, etc but specifically neglect? Also, good info on the impact of parental income when deciding dependent vs independent but how many families make $30,000 to $35,000 per year? This may not apply to many viewers unless your audience is atypical.
@edzamoracollegeprepchannel38202 жыл бұрын
For any type of independences from needing the parents income and assets they are going to want a lot of documents they will not just accept emancipation

Hi, I am 21 about to be 22. I live in my parents home. I’ve had a job since sophomore year of high school. I’ve had a full-time job since my junior year of college. All of my bills are paid by me. I am finishing my bachelors taking a year off and when I applied for School again, I’ll be applying for my masters since since that makes me a graduate student should I claim myself as independent on FASFA if I am also going to claim myself as independent on my taxes?

Hi, I had a baby recently (4months old) and I have 21 years old and they told me I have to claim as Independent but there’s a question that says that, we don’t need to put our parents income information but it also says you may want to answer questions about your parents if you are a law school or health profession student such as (medical or nursing student) and then it ask would you like to answer a question about your parents? What should I do so it doesn’t affect my financial aid?

Hi, My son is 20 years old and receives SSD benefits. He pays a set amount a home on a monthly basis for rent and bills. Does he count as independent or do I have to put our information in the FAFSA application?

@@safarikipata2548 hey I had an idea that might help you - get "married" to a friend. Idk if gay marriage is legal where u live but it could be your best friend and also just someone else. If u both are broke it'll be easier to file your taxes. But also you need to get a handle of all your parents finances. Talk to uncles and auntys so that you can correctly assess their situation and how you can transfer it to your name. But maybe you shouldn't and just file your taxes with only what you earn. Best of luck hopw this helped.
