I like the Hulk movie more than most people do, not saying it's one of the better ones but not THAT bad. But one thing I never really got behind is Ruffalo as Banner. Even when it was first announced I was like "really?" Nothing against him but he doesn't really capture the nerdy, wimpy, tormented aspect of Banner IMO. I thought Norton (or even Bana) was a better Banner but that's just my 2 cents. It's unfortunate we never got a blockbuster Hulk movie.

It has more to do with Universal having shared filming rights to the Hulk. If the Hullk appears in a solo movie, Universal gets a big piece of that box office pie. Also means they get involved in the creative process. Hence why there is only 1 Hulk solo movie in the MCU (The Incredible Hulk). That said, if the Hulk appears as a secondary character (such as in the avengers films and Thor Ragnarok) Universal gets nothing.

What Universal holds is the distribution rights and the first right of refusal, meaning that if Marvel were to make a Hulk film, the moment they sought out a third party to distribute the film, Universal would be entitled, by contract, to claim the job as distributor for themselves. But Disney distributes all films made by their studios, themselves.
