1:41 it was believed that wolves had ranks within a pack, the Alpha (the leader) the Beta (the second in command/the alphas mate) and the Omega ( the "in command") were the most popular, but all of this was disproven and the creator of the theory openly admitted that he was wrong! wolf packs are just families, with the mother and the father leading the pack together. There still kind of is an "omega" in packs, which is kind of the punching bag of the family. Playing and taking care of the pups and socializing with everyone else to keep everyone calm, but if they werent the "omega" would kind of get beat up- but without getting actually wounded of course

Just wanted to let you know, since you are a biology major, that alpha theory was disproven and the guy that came up with it has made it his life’s mission to unteach people alpha theory because he feels so bad that it got so popular. It was developed by watching how wolves in captivity interact, but turns out how a bunch of strange wolves thrown into an enclosure together interact doesn’t reflect how actual wild wolf packs function, who would have thought. Ha ha. Pretty much all wild wolf packs are actually just a family consisting of two parents and their offspring, so not so much ranking is really involved.
