The first time I watched this video, I was just watching for the sake of "omg, troye uploaded a new video." But now that I look at it again, I've realized it's what I needed to hear. But there's one thing stopping me from being who I want to be; myself. I can't appreciate my body because this is not what I want to be. Be a confident person, that might not look like a model, is much more interesting than a bubble gum bitch (in my opinion). Not every one will look at you like you deserve but the ones that do see your beauty, are the ones that you want to keep close. One of my idols once said: the best day of my life was the day is started being myself. You see it's about being a better you. This doesn't mean bc you don't look/feel how you want to look/feel doesn't mean you are not giving your best. If somebody is interested in the script (or the lyrics) of the video :-) This is a video about platform shoes, among other things as well but mostly about platform shoes. For as long as I've been creative, I've been fearful. Fearful of rejection, fearful of failure, fearful of "who does this kid think he is?". But a year ago I signed my record deal and I thought I was going to wake up one morning and all of a sudden be the dopest person on the planet. With sick style and incredible music. I realized soon after that it was not going to be that easy. I realized that the art I appreciate and the people I appreciate are not just your average person walking down the street. You can take away their money and take away their fame. And they will cut up a garbage bag and be wearing it like it just came off the runway in Paris. They'd still be doing that thing that is just left of center that you either love or you hate, but to be frank they don't give a fuck what you think. Art is risk. Upon realizing this it had been an interesting journey. I'm on the path to being a person I'm equally terrified by and obsessed with. My true self. I realized that if I wanted to make cool shit, I had to make cool shit. If that cool shit was letting myself scream into a microphone in a room full of people looking like a complete idiot, because I know it's going to sound amazing on the final track, it's about doing that. But this doesn't only apply to me. If it means taking rad photos that your friends are going to condescendingly call 'so tumblr', it's about doing that. If it's about singing on the top of your lungs when you're tone deaf, it's about doing that. If it's about showing off your ass because you know it's cute, even though you might get called a slut, it's doing that. If it's wearing something you probably can't pull off, like women's platform converse shoes when you're a 19 year old man, it's about doing that. Whatever it is, I urge you to do it. Don't let people stifle you because you're doing the shit that they have always been too scared to do. Love your body, let your mind wonder, and let yourself be the person you've secretly always wanted to be. This is still the realest shit I have EVER heard. It's all true, kids. When I first watched this video, I was terrified. Because I knew I have to change and I have to get started to do what I really want oderwise I won't have any other 'tomorrow' anymore. So I did. I couldn't love my body; I started to work out, I lost a lot of weight, now I'm on the path to love my body. I had to change ; I cut my hair because all my life I had long hair, and I love it more than ever and now I have a bitter taste in my mouth because I was such a coward to not doing it earlier. I wear clothes I actually like and which are actually fit. I got confidence, I'm braver than ever. And maybe I've never been in love or got drunk, travel on a plane ;but that's okay. I realized I have countless options. Maybe I'm still not the person I want to be; but I'm getting closer by every day. And Troye was an incredible inspiration for changing. Maybe I'm not happy, but I'm on the right path to be. I'm so grateful. Thank you. I'm not saying you have to change to be happy - but if you're unhappy, you need to change.

It's not about finding yourself but about creating yourself. So right. I never liked the "find yourself, find who you are" thing. It implies that what you are is already decided but you have do find yourself and conform to yourself. Creating yourself is more about being in control of you and what you become. You do have a choice, you can become who you want to be, whatever that is (as long as it's legal and not hurting anyone). I used to stop myself from doing things I would have secretly wanted to do, thinking "this is not me, it would be weird, people would think I'm trying to be someone cool I am not", but this is so wrong. We decide what character we want to play in the great RPG of life, we can develop our character the way we want and there is no such thing as "doing something OOC" when it's something you want to do.

lmao actually though taking little solo journeys through through the woods and capturing "so tumblr" pictures of wildlife and things is so fun. We have a wildlife conservation in my city, where people can come and go as they please and there are paths everywhere. About a month ago, I finally took the path that had a tiny, two board foot path over some marsh and just led directly into the woods with no way out, but I saw so many beautiful things (all these chickadees were swarming around a bird feeder some people had put up back there, and I just stood there right in the middle and they didn't mind me at all) and it was amazing.

So I went to Virginia over my fall break and while I was there I went shopping, when I go shopping with my mom I usually go into store like Gap and Old Navy. I use to play it safe with my style. When I finally went shopping on my own, I found clothing that finally made me feel like me. I redid my make up and when I went back home two days later I was a totally different person. I was more confident in my self and the choices I wanted to make as a person. I was finally able to concur my writers block and start a project that I am truly excited about. I stopped waiting for the right time to create projects and instead I just sat down took my camera out and went out and took pictures and video. If you want to make cool shit, you've got to create cool shit. I'm not going to waste my life anymore. I'm going to create the content that I really just want to create. Not the content that people want to see.

I had the same. Keeping it safe because of people will think etc. Especially here, in Poland it's not good to stick out. But I finally bought a fedora hat and it makes me feel so confident that I seriously don't care anymore.

I need you to know i watched this for the first time when i was 16 years old. Still very much in the closet, and i found this to be the most important video i’ve ever seen. Cause it spoke VOLUMES to me. Here I am, 23, still coming back to this video every once in a while since then, and still always finding inspiration and motivation in it. I have been slowly growing more and more, and i feel like im finally at a point where i can say I am my true self. Nothing is being held back. I feel confident and free of who i used to be. (Or who i was Trying to be) I have taken so much from this video, so many quotes and lessons. I appreciate you Troye for your words!

Troye, this video made my night. My family literally wants me to participate in all of these random activities but I really don't want to. They are saying that I'm on the "bad side" of things. They think I'm lazy and don't want to do anything. I'm literally all day on the Internet making edits for my fandom account on Instagram or watching videos. If anybody wants all the words to this video, I typed it all out haha, I wasted like 20 minutes of my life. Here: This is a video about platform shoes, among other things as well, but mostly about platform shoes. For as long as I've been creative, I've been fearful... Fearful of rejection, fearful of failure, fearful of who does this kid think he is. But a year ago, I signed my record deal and I thought I was going to wake up one morning and all of a sudden be the dopest person on the planet with sick style and incredible music. I realized soon after that, that it wasn't going to be that easy. I realized that the art I appreciate and the people that I appreciate are not the average person that walks down the street. You could take away their money and take away their fame and they would cut up a garbage bag and be wearing it like it just came off the runway in Paris. They'd still be doing that thing that is just left of center that you either love or you hate but to be frank, they don't give a fuck what you think. Art is risk. Upon realizing this, it's been an interesting journey. I'm on the path to being a person that I'm equally terrified by and obsessed with... my true self. I realized that if I wanted to make cool shit, I had to make cool shit if that cool shit was letting myself scream into a microphone in a room full of people looking like a complete idiot because I know that it's going to sound amazing on the final track. It's about doing that. But this doesn't only apply to me. If it means taking rad photos that your friends are condescendingly call so tumblr. It's about doing that. If it's about singing at the top of your lungs when you're tone deaf. It's about doing that. If it's about showing off your ass because you know it's cute, even though you might get called a slut. It's doing that. If it's wearing something that you probably can't pull off, like women's platform Converse shoes, when you're a nineteen year old man. It's about doing that. Whatever it is, I urge you to do it. Don't let people stifle you because you're doing the shit but they have always been too scared to do. Love your body, let your mind wonder, and let yourself be the person that you secretly always wanted to be. Life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself. I love you guys so much, and I'll see you all next week. x
