I'm so glad i found your channel. I've had the dream of owning a homestead for some time now. But my current home is on half an acre and it's too small to do what i REALLY want to do...but i decided to start small with an urban backyard homestead...and to learn the skills that I'll need to run a larger homestead...love your videos. They are an inspiration...Keep them coming😊
@BecomingaFarmGirl3 жыл бұрын
Hello dear friend! Firstly- thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself and say “hello”😀! So much of what you shared resonates with me too! While I wait for land large enough to support pigs, a few dairy cows and chickens, I realized a while ago that acres are only part of the homestead routine and that there’s a mindset shift that many practical kitchen, herbal and diys I could learn and apply inside of my townhome! Truly, I know see and appreciate my small space as a blessing. When I make a mistake it’s not as costly as it could be on a larger homestead, I’m gradually scaling in knowledge and that’s...awesome! Plus, in pursuit of my “dream” I don’t want to ignore the blessing God has given me now with the roof I have over my head, etc. It’s so nice to meet you along this journey! I’m happy to learn from and with you so share your tips! At first I thought I was crazy for having a channel talk about this topic-you make me realize it’s pretty “normal”! Blessings on your week!

@@BecomingaFarmGirl thanks it’s nice to meet you too! i am getting ready to start. I want to learn how to preserve and store food without refrigeration or freezers. What is the simplest thing to start with for canning? I live in an apartment and I’m going to be starting a small garden in a corner in my living room.
@BecomingaFarmGirl3 жыл бұрын
Shannon that’s so awesome to hear! While both pressure canning and water bath canning aren’t as scary as you may have heard my recommendation is to start with water bath canning because you likely already have the equipment (large pot and lid is all that’s needed). Lots of spreads, jams, conserves and jellies are water bath recipes and I feature lots of ideas here on the channel. As long as you follow an approved recipe book for measurements and processing times you’ll get the hang of it. I’m still not close to canning everything but it’s been neat to see how much I continue to make a dent (or have just stopped buying canned from the grocery store) over the past 4 years or so. You’ve got this!!!!
