GIANT PHILIPPINES TILAPIA! Biggest Lake in Mindanao (Road to Marawi)

THEY HAVE GIANT TILAPIA IN LAKE LANAO... THE BIGGEST LAKE IN MINDANAO!
This day starts off in Picong Lanao Del Sur. I pass through the little tunnel and make my way toward Malabang. There, I decide to turn off and head up towards Lake Lanao. In all my life here in Mindanao, I have never seen the biggest lake with my own eyes... but now I have. Spending time at a Lake Side Resto (literally the name) in Ganassi, I really appreciated not only the local conversation, but the giant tilapia!
YES, LITERALLY GIANT TILAPIA! Just look how freaking big the chunk of fish meat was. Slathered in coconut milk sauce with a hint of palapa... it was amazing!
Do I suggest scootering around areas of Lanao Del Sur alone and without local friends or guides? No. But I was uplifted on this day, feeling the positive interactions I was having with Maranaos.
What a wonderful first experience up at the second largest lake in the Philippines and biggest in Mindanao!

I am a Maranao and a big fan of you Kulas. I have been watching since forever. I am so happy you have shown how friendly and lively Maranaos can be. Not just because of stereo types. I know we had a TON of bad apples, and for generations people treat us as such. People also need to know that these events didn't happen because of the majority. A lot of bad apples are just loud and with guns. Other ethnic tribes treat 99% of the population the same way. Anyway I am not gonna get into that. i have discovered this channel when i was scrolling in the FB feedbacks. i was stunned that a canadian vlogger showed some of the places in lanao del sur which is very rare for a foreigner to do that. i have watched other foreigner vlogger but they only visited the ruins in marawi city. this one is very different. and i am happy that you showed the place, the food and the people who are very friendly towards you. and that changes the misconception by most of the people. i am looking forward to more of your vlogs. and thank you so much on sharing your videos! also, you should visit marawi city itself especially in this time of ramadhan. also visiting MSU is a very must. i live in marawi city specifically on the side of the lake. if i am there, i can show you our "Pantalan" which is newly constructed and you can see the big horizon as well. it very great for sunset.

I suggest a motorbike trip around lake lanao is the next best episode you can make. Its the heart of lanao del sur. You will pass by the circumferential road almost all the municipalities.

@12:48 Lake Lanao is called Ranao locally so hence, Maranao. Also, a lot of tagalog and bisaya words that start or there's letter L on it Marano people will always say it with R instead.

Ma means of, ranaw is lake, hence of the lake, people of the lake. Ranaw is very similar to the Cebuano lanao. My guess is that the lake is an ancient volcanic crater. Guess lang. In 1955, there was a huge earthquake in the area, one side of the lake rose while the other side dipped causing flooding. There are many studies of the lake from MSU (Mindanao State University) professors. Eid Ramadhan!

If that lake is clean and safe to swim or eat fish from then thats pretty cool.. we have many lakes around Michigan that are at times not to safe for swimming.. Bacteria levels high due to people and animals living around them.. Run off pollution. Tested all year and advisory put out.
