Everytime I have come home to my cabin in the wilderness some animal has moved in...minks, squirrels, mice and now a bear!

Unfortunately we love to live in there front yard. We can live together as long as we give each other the space we both need. But when a bear decides he wants what you got and gets too aggressive the relationship breaks down. And its him or you. Old west style and only one will walk away. Glad you're still walking Nikki.

I cannot believe your neighbours left garbage out, you do not do that in bear country. A fed bear is a dead bear.

Love the insight into the reality of living in the wild. What critter will invade your home next year?? Sad about the fate of the bear. Glad you were able to have a summer of 'doing nothing'. 《 Ha 》 Am sure your post summer vid will contain new adventures and problem solving. We love your stories!

Sorry they had to shoot the habituated bear. Damn neighbours with their garbage out. Here in Houston - the 4th largest city in the USA- I have to deal with rats (not mice) and flying roaches in my house. They eat books and mementos stored in boxes. And here if people see a bear, cougar, wolf, eagle, they’d shoot the critters on sight, even if the animals were just living their lives. At least in Echo Bay you don’t have to deal with 90-minute freeway commutes, road rage and folks carrying AR-15 guns into stores just because they can. I sure miss the Broughton Archipelago! I’m a dual Canadian-USA. But my heart is totally Canadian

I do want to say that you do live in a wonderful place & fabulous that your right next to the lake/ocean. My dream house, when I'm really old like 60+, is to live on a houseboat like my Dad, Mother, & I built in the 1980's. Those where I think the best time of my life. I mean you get hot, which it's bad in summer in Missouri, sticky hot, you run off the dock & go for a swim or you jump in your 1984 inboard/outboard ranger boat & go for a ride w/the bikini top up for shade from the sun & just play w/the kids & grandkids. I just got a house giving to me by my Mother, my grandfather built it, she lives behind me & I've really thought about it if something does happen to her. I'm out, going to rent, & do the houseboat thing up till I go just like my Dad did & his stupid wife sold it all. I wasn't happy bc that boat my family built & I felt like the redheaded stepchild where I didn't get any personal items of my Dad's. Pretty shitty if you asked me. 1000s of hours just painting railing on the outside around the boat, every holiday of my adult life me, my husband, & the kids would drop everything we had planed to go down to the boat & help my Dad go all kinds of improvements fixing the boat so it didn't sink, I ran every wire under the boat, drive shaft cables, water lines, TV cable, you name it I got under that boat & ran it as I was told. Even extra pontoons to make sure it didn't sink. & she sold it like it was in her way. Didn't ask me, his only child, ABOUT anything even on his funeral arrangements. This all happened in 2007 & I'm just now trying to let it go & move on, but it's heard. I'm come together & think about karma is a bitch. It's coming you wait & see. Sorry I got Debbie downer on you, but your place reminds me about my childhood. I love your place & one day, w/prayer, I to will be living my dream. Thank God that bear didn't harm you or anyone else on the island & y'all are safe w/the bear out of the picture. Yes he/she needed to be put down. It's a shame, but had to happen, Chris from Missouri

DON'T feed the bears! Why don't people listen. Now I realize that probably wasn't the case here but too often people feeding the bears ultimately results in their demise and its very sad for the bears 🐻 😢

Poor bear 😞 had to die because someone doesn't care about wild life and is completely irresponsible.

I don't know how long you were away but it is amazing you didn't have more damage. We were evacuated for a few weeks because of the fires in the Okanagan this summer, I couldn't get over how quickly the critters were wanting to move in and I was up every day moving sprinklers. Thanks for sharing.
