The best idea ever! And if there are any bugs in the bed base, line the sides of it all around with double sided sticky tape. As a final line of defence put tape all across the sides of the mattress and don't use a bed sheet for a few days until the bed bugs are caught. Use a blanket sparingly as you don't want it touching the sticky tape and wearing out it's stickiness. They will eventually starve the bed bugs for want of blood.

I’m a little late to the party, but I’ve been having some bed bug problems and felt like sharing some of my solutions that have worked for me. Here’s what you need to do if you cannot afford an exterminator/treatment. I am not a doctor or a bug expert. Bed bugs listen and feel for vibrations to determine where you are and wait until you stop moving to hunt. They feed off your blood and are not known to cause any harmful infections or diseases but that may differ from person to person, typically they will leave bite marks that are very irritating and scratchy. Bed bug traps like the ones used for ants or roaches are not effective as bed bugs are very quick to spread and will not solve the problem with this type of trap. Double sided tape can work as a quick fix to prevent them from getting into you while you sleep, some methods include taping the legs of a bed frame, but for money tight folks like me, I don’t have a frame yet. You can use the tape on the sides of a mattress and make sure all ends and edges are covered to actually slow down their path to you. This is not very effective either but works temporarily and deters most away, some may find a crevice to crawl through or may crawl on your blanket touching the floor which means you have to make sure every tiny corner is accounted for. One of the best non exterminator processes is to have a bed frame with pitfall traps, these can be purchased as a pack of 4-8 ranging from 20-30 bucks, the trap requires no chemicals or installation, you quite literally place the bowl shaped trap under the legs of furniture or beds and the material the traps are made of will prevent them from climbing onto your bed. It has a textured base and edge allowing for easy access climbing for the bugs, but when they reach the pitfall the material is too slippery for them and prevents them from climbing anywhere, ultimately trapping them. You can easily vacuum them up in the morning and not have to worry about being eaten alive while sleeping. This of course WILL NOT solve the bedbug issue. It helps prevent them from getting to you while you sleep but can still go dormant and can survive up to A YEAR without feeding. In order to completely REMOVE them, I of course advice speaking with a verified exterminator and get a quote before you pay anything. Exterminators typically use pet friendly chemicals and steam treatments which kill bedbugs on contact with a temp over 200 degrees F. Heat kills bedbugs most effectively, and the chemicals prevent them from laying eggs and spreading more. This can be quite costly so work out your options. The pitfall trap is the best quick and easy way to PREVENT them from getting to you, but if the problem persists you will need an exterminator. Hopefully this helps someone, bedbugs have kept me up for days straight because I cannot handle knowing they are crawling all over me while I’m trying to sleep.

The tape need only be in place for a couple of days. It is not supposed to remain in place long enough to collect dust and hair. Bed bugs feed every three days, or so. If your bed has bed bugs this tape monitor should show indications quickly.

Although bed bugs prefer the warmer wood surfaces, they still can be found on metal frame beds. They take blood meals. They do not eat wood.

I bought bed bug zip covers and there are holes in them so I am now going to wrap my entire box spring in duct tape and leave it because bed zip covers are a waste of money if one bug gets loose they start making a home on the outside of the bed covers.

Miss Dee if you have bed bugs you need a new mattress and to clean your house. Don't seal them in they can still suck your blood through the protector

Leg traps only work if the BBS are in your carpet. If they nest in your mattress they are useless. What do you use then?

Wait i have a question... where do i put the double sides tape with regular tape on it? wait so i use double sided sticky tape.. but i didnt get the part on putting a second layer on.. what was the second layer of tape for.. i didnt really catch it...

Do you still have your semi? Cover anything you suspect of harboring bedbugs and run exhaust inside of it for 24 hours. It kills everything including humans so be careful with it, but it DOES kill bedbugs anywhere they may be in the million of places you have. 24 hours and all bedbugs are dead. Costs, the price of the diesel fuel running idle for 24 hours.
